Our first live show in 14 years. Yes, 14.

When we showed up hinside the venue there was no room for all of our equipment, no mixer, no power. Everything was semi-remedied only about 10 minutes before our scheduled set-time. We were squeezed into a tiny corner, and managed to pull it off. Much respect to the one like the DJ Ophidian for having to go through this nonstop. There was a lot of introing from both ourselves and whomever made artist intros for the event, but about 7 minutes too late I think we got to press the first buttons.

What does remastering mean? Specifically to us and in conjunction with our venture into the realm of digital releases.

Remastering is usually just a nice buzz word you can add to your product to make it sell better and not much more than that. With most older music released digitally these days it means people made it a little louder than it was before and that's it. For some, that's honestly all we had to do. Others, were a lot of work and definitely more work than any of our colleagues thought we should have invested in it. Most people called us nuts.

The process did make us more sympathetic to George Lucas and all the criticism he had to endure in regards to polishing up his movies and adding new kicks and rides to his old trilogy. We understand this much better now.

One example: when two bass sounds were clashing in your final mixdown you just recorded to DAT there was not much you could do about it in the early 2000s. We didn't have fancy speakers or subwoofers, so often we couldn't even hear such problems. The average listener or DJ wouldn't hear it either. It would just mean your record didn't get played as much as it could have been. We can hear these things very clearly now and they are also more easily fixed these days. There is so much more that can be wrong with a track beyond this little example, of course. Full list not available on request.

The reason we remastered and for the most part actually complete redid the mixes of the tracks is because we could. The is the first time most this stuff is becoming available digitally. It's a great opportunity we did not want to pass up.

Think of it this like washing your car to make it look nicer. Better yet, adding a huge spoiler and flames to it. Still the same car, but more awesome.

Actually, think of it like the ultimate collecter's edition blu-ray transfer of Blade Runner. You are not ever going to say, "Fuck no, I don't want to see that awesome blu-ray again. Lets watch the old VHS transfer." The opportunity presents itself and sometimes it's simply done well.

For at least 65% of the back catalog we focused on such things as restoring energy and fixing minor glitches, clicks, pops, hum, excessive frequencies, etc. Probably only we would, could and should ever hear and complain about these things, but, we are George Lucas in this story, so we can do whatever we want. Our movies, remember? Rest assured: all tracks sound very, very close to the originals and should for the most part be indistinguishable from the versions released on vinyl. We didn't just turn everything up to 11 hoping no one would notice and neither did we go overboard. Some older stuff still sounds highly inferior to what we're capable of now, but now it's professional high definition inferior-sounding shit.

The next 30% consists of tracks we'd already remastered for Scenocide 202 and tracks that already sounded great because they were made in our latest studio environments. The Scenocide 202 CD is a good example of our take on remastering. (It can be purchased and judged by the Remastering Tribunal at leisure.)

And... Yes, there _are_ tracks we _completely_ redid. The remaining 15%. Not subtle. Full-on. No apologies. Complete re-recording of multi-tracks, new layers of frequencies and many, many days of work to make them fuck off more than they ever could on VHS. Remember, this is blu-ray.

You started out doing hardcore music and later the drum & bass beats appeared. Why?

A lot of the hardcore I liked had breakbeats in it, so it was only natural for me to follow the breaks to where they came from. I was making drum & bass at the same time I was making hardcore, but I was more serious about the hardcore. Serious drum & bass came later. 

What is hardcore for you?

Hardcore equals energy to. Or equaled. It's been such a big part of my life for such a long time that sometimes it's hard to remember why I do what I do. I think right now it's just a style of music I like making. I remember the first time I heard good hardcore on a reaaaaally big sound system in 1992 and I knew then for sure that I wanted to make music that would be heard on those speakers. 

Do you think 'hardcore will never die' is true?

Hardcore has already died three times before. It always comes back. So, yes' It will absolutely die again. It's doing a good job of killing itself right now, but it will be back about a year or two later. 

You and DJ Hidden created the project 'The Outside Agency'. What went through your head when you came up with this project? And how did you meet DJ Hidden?

I met Noel (Hidden) in 1991. We were introduced by mutual friends. We both used to think that there was absolutely no one else in our city that was making hardcore. Our friends set us up together, and we started working together that same week. Our first project was 'X-Factor', and we needed a new name for a release on another label than the label X-Factor was signed to. Noel picked the name from one of his favorite stories. 

What inspires you. Where do you get ideas for creating music?

I'm inspired by other good music, like everyone else I think. I'm also inspired by the idea of people dancing to my music. 99% of the time I start out with some drums and I take it from there.

What do you talk about with other artists? Newfound sounds, impressive parties, machinery, beautiful women? 

Yes, we all usually talk about music together. The artists that you end up talking about other things with usually become good friends.

What is your hardcore and dnb scene vision for the future?

I don't really have a vision for any scene. I like making hardcore and drum & bass, and combining the two. As long as I have fun making it, I will keep making it. All I can hope for is that people will still like what I do.

What do you miss the most at parties?

If people are open-minded and willing to move there's not really anything I miss. The things that can hurt parties the most are bad sound and people that didn't come to dance. I often miss a third deck, too. I prefer playing with three.

What is the most exciting thing that has happened to you at a party?

I once had an entire crowd screaming my name till I would play one last track. That was wonderful. But really, any time people are into it enough to dance and get crazy it's exciting to me.

What do you expect to see during the Vilnius party?

I like to see myself as someone with really high hopes and low expectations, but I know Vilnius is a beautiful city and I've also heard that people love their hard drum & bass there, so I'm ready!
