And now... the rest of the story http://feeds.artistdata.com/a-AR-X117AEDHA558FZQL/ADN-BG-C76547BEA0377717 Blog entry by RJ

So it's been a few days since we've arrived home from tour and we really needed those days to rest and relax after a kick ass tour! Last I left off we had just played at The Courtroom and we were relaxing at Earnest's house in J-actionville.

7/28:After a much deserved rest, some magic games, and a couple cases of Busch Light we wound up at Landshark Cafe for our show. I've been trying to get a show there for awhile. A few years ago at their old location I had the pleasure of playing there when I was in Call For Fire. It was a sweet show consisting of Fatter Than Albert and Safety (Intensity in 10 Cities Tour) and our show there was pretty awesome. The free fish tacos and beer was probably the biggest contributor to the awesomenity of the show but just the same it had kept me wanting to go back there since. While I didn't order food this time, the beer flowed like water and the tunes jammed like a rain of audial boners! At this show we tried rolling out a fun little Iron Maiden intro we had messed with but it didn't work out as well as we wanted. The set started out great but I felt confined by the proximity of tables and chairs. A few songs in, Earnest and Ian started moving them out of the way which facilitated some fun dancing. What I thought was a great idea turned awry as Earnest and Ian formed a small circle pit whose main focus was ball thwacking (if you don't know what that means just use your imagination!) It's hard to be active on stage when you have to constantly protect your shield generators but they remained intact (thank God!). We're definitely going back to Landshark (maybe with a sports cup this time).

7/29: It was kind of sad leaving Earnest's house. We stayed there two nights so it was kind of our home away from home. We were excited about heading down to The Junkyard though, and for good reason. We've generally stayed away from Orlando, opting instead to visit the surrounding cities of Sanford, Deland, and Deleon Springs. Why do we do this? Because the shows are nucking futs and this show was no different. Andrew Buchman from Swamp Cabbage records booked us at The Junkyard Saloon. It was a cool biker bar that had a back "yard" that was basically a junkyard. There was a stage under an improvised carport that looked to be made of garage doors. There were random picnic tables and cars cut in half and made into couches. We played with The Hoverounds, Cerephesis, and the Dead Yetis. The Dead Yetis were this awesome ska band with a phenomenal horn section. They got the kids out and skanking right off the bat. We followed up and the set went extremely well. With the help of some medication I was able to move more gingerly than before. I was also stoked that we were playing extended sets on some dates and this was one of them. After we finished it was discovered that there was a big industrial sized fan pointed into the crowd that needed to be turned on. Cerephesis got on stage with a lot of new material that I really enjoyed. These guys are a really good mix of metal influenced ska flavored punk a la Choking Victim and are probably the one band I've played with for almost every visit we've made to the area. The Hoverounds (formerly The Sweet Kings) closed the show right. When a band is born of another band you tend to think they are similar but listening to the Hoverounds I discovered their style is pretty different from The Sweet Kings. They were more aggressive and jumpy. It reminded me of suicide machines a couple times which I really liked. They also did a punk cover of "If You Wanna Be Happy" by Jimmy Soul (later performed by Harry Belafonte and The Coasters) which was totally awesome! One of the guys from Gnarly Whales put us up at their house which was wayyy cool. Pancakes!

7/30: We made the trip down to Ft. Lauderdale liesurely. I really wasn't sure what was going to happen with the show we were about to play. It was a Plea For Peace benefit that had moved a couple times and it was the same day as Warped Tour so I wasn't expecting much. We got to the house where the show was and were pleasantly surprised to see members of King Rooster who we had played the Ska Fest series with in Pompano. They were playing in a band called Van Gogh Sky and the name really fit their style. It was really proggy with timing changes and riffs that make you wanna ponder the heavens. Really fun to listen to and they performed it really well. We went to work and just as we did in Auburn, we set up the strobe light, put the headlamp on, and went crazy. Afterward we were treated to some delicious food by the Amors and made our way to our friend Travis' house (it has a pool) where we swam and listened to old ska records until the wee hours of the morn!

7/31: It's at about this point where I really get the feeling we're being totally spoiled. I've been able to shower every day, we've had great food cooked for us so we haven't depleted our tour food stock. Things are on the up and up! Getting moving the next day we found another free food opportunity. A band named Resolver had organized a monthly beach clean-up followed by a cook out. We climbed into the back of Travis' pickup ready to philanthropize! We got to the beach and immediately realized we were the fattest dudes there. Picking up the trash was tedious but felt great. I was stopping every foot or so to pick up cigarette butts. They didn't make my bag look full but there was plenty of other trash items that did. We decided to go jump in the ocean to refresh ourselves only when we jumped in the water was only a degree or so cooler than the hot air so not as refreshing as we thought running in. Returning to the clean-up base I held my bag up with pride, chucked it into the dumpster and lined up for some burgers! I felt bad for Biscuit, being vegetarian is sometimes more of a hassle than you'd think. It's easy to get food but on tour convenience is king so he'd usually have to run across a street or we'd have to make an extra stop which sometimes resulted in him being hungry as hell with no sympathy from the carnivores. After re-grouping back at Travis' we headed down to the Monterey Club. It was a cool little bar for a Sunday night show. We played with Here's To Nathan and Dead Right and I believe we were scheduled to headline. At about 11pm no one had loaded onto the stage yet. Since we had some friends who came out to see us but had to work early I asked if we could just rock it out first. We had a amazing set inside that little bar and the guys who worked there smacked our sticker center mass on the outside window. Big thanks has to go out to Mike from Break On Through for getting that going for us, it was way cool.

8/1: It was hard to leave our second home away from home away from home, but we managed a quick clean-up and were on our way. We had all the time in the world as Miami lay only a short drive away. A friend of mine from way back said he could probably help us out on some food so we stopped by his restaurant. When we walked up we read the big name on the window and realized my friend owned the joint! This place was an expensive steak place too so the spoiledness was really setting in now. After getting full we went to Aventura Mall and caught Captain America. We treked the remaining distance to Miami and rolled into an area very close to downtown to the Transit Lounge. The place was really cool, awesome sound, nice and COLD, good beers. Mikey from Enough! set the show up for us and even made some sliders on potato rolls for us! This was a reunion of sorts too as the other guys in Enough!, Fabio and Homer, worked with Steve and Quinn when they were in Hopesick. It had been years since we had seen them so it was really nice to re-establish a working relationship with those guys, plus it was our first show in Miami as Chilled Monkey Brains so we were loving it! After a post-set Magic game we cruised over to Twan's house (Twan is in this awesome hispanic punk band Guerrilleros De Nadie - look them up!). He lived in a no shit punk house and I will say that it was the finest "shithole" we've ever stayed in. There was spray paint all over the walls and beer cans/bottles everywhere but he had AC, a big screen TV, and cable and I actually slept really comfortably there! Twan and Fabio are party animals though and would not let us go to sleep until we had consumed large quantities of alcohol and met their party seal of approval which happened around 6am.

8/2: I wish I could say I caught up on sleep during the trip through alligator alley but I just played Mario DS the whole time! Nearing the end of tour brings about two different feelings. Once you pass the half-way point, your blisters go away and your voice comes back. You get used to being dehydrated from the night before and get into the party rythm. Near the end one feeling is bummination: you feel like you could do another week or two now that you've gotten over that hump. The other feeling is jubilation that you'll be back in reality, you'll have a comfy bed to sleep in, AC to not sweat your balls off to, and reuniting with your beloved girlfriend, wife, and/or doggy. Responsibilities be damned until after - we still got a couple shows to play! We rolled up to Rackem Billiards and stood by for our first show on the south west coast of Florida. Tim B from Phenomenom Meets Cookbook set the show up for us. He is a really rad dude with more heart in his pinky than most of the people have in their entire bodies. He is planning a 239 Punk/Ska Fest at the same location that we'll be returning to so it was good to lay some groundwork. Big E and Sugar D opened up and did exceptionally well. I thought Johnny Cash and June Carter were doing a duet up there! We got on stage and destroyed it as usual. The kids were really into it and we had a great time. Phenomenom Meets Cookbook were awesome too. They did a song about their penises which was very poignant and thought provoking. The best thing about Rackem Billiards that we had not experienced at all on tour: FREE BEER! Sometimes the smallest gestures go the farthest - we'll be back to Rackems with bells on! We were fortunate enough to stay with one of Quinn's friends and not have to make the trek to Tampa early in the morning.

8/3: Last day of tour - it's like a holiday that you take to the extreme. At that point in time it is the best and only show in the world, it might as well be the last show you ever play. We were about to blow the roof off of the venue! After our 5th and final Cracker Barrel autograph signing and butt trumpet performance we headed for that city of pirates. We stopped by Quinn's folks house to get showered up. We were to meet up with Royal and for the second to last time on tour, get some free food! I believe we are now corporately sponsored by Cracker Barrel, Outback, and Chipotle! The show was in Ybor City at a spot called Market On 7th, a cool little pizza place in the heart of town. We played with a star studded line-up that included Won't Be Arsed, Unchecked Aggression, The Long John's, and Paranoia Dance Party. Tons of kids showed up, and probably about 20 or so of Royal's friends who, when asked at the door who they were there to see, came up with the most interesting answers (The Monkeys, Chillin Monkeys, Chilled Brains, Chilly Monkey Bang, etc.) - did it really matter? By the time they left they knew our name! It was etched into their brains with trombone rips and booty shaking. Needless to say the show was totally baller. There are tons of videos up at www.floridaska.com in the media section. HUUUUUUGE Thanks to the tampa crew, and every other crew for making us feel like the most loved band in existence! Now we're home, grinning like we just conquered the world, missing the road just a little - but happy to be back in the rear with the gear and amped to get finished with the new music we've been working on. From the land of Chilly Monkey Bang - WE LOVE YOU GUYS - THANK YOU A MILLION TIMES!

Angry Primate Tour Update http://feeds.artistdata.com/a-AR-X117AEDHA558FZQL/ADN-BG-05B754FC7B776730 Blog entry by RJ

Again, by God's good graces I find myself sitting down to a delicious meal cooked by Steve. We are at Big Earn's house in Orange Park. Back in Florida and ready for the last leg of tour. When I left you we were on our way to Greensboro.

7/25: We arrived at Glenwood Coffee to play a show we were definitely looking forward to. The line-up included a pretty sweet hardcore and poppunk bands. Two local bands Beacon and Live Forever played first and kicked in really hard. We were slotted right in the middle and stoked because these kids didn't know what they were about to get into. We've come to the conclusion that we love playing hardcore bills. Sometimes when we play with a bunch of ska bands people will complain that we're too hard (we have that problem alot - being hard that is ;) but hardcore kids will tell us they thought ska sucked before they saw us - and that really amps us up! So after showing some of them that skanking was just backwards leg kicks, they really started getting down! We were followed by Boys No Good (from jax!) and Rust Belt Lights who put on amazing sets. We were lucky enough to crash at Adam from Corporate Fandango's place on UNCG's campus. It was his roomate's 21st birthday and we found ourselves at a party conversing with music performance majors and graduate students about who the better trombone player was, Curtis Fuller or Jim Miller. We found an N64 with 007 and spent the late night in a heated 4 way 1 shot 1 kill tournament.

7/26: We came into Rock Hill early and explored the downtown area. We thought we had the wrong address because the place where the show was supposed to be looked like a courthouse. Walking through the building was like being transported back to the 1940's. At one time the building had beena bank, a post office, and a courthouse. We took the steep marble steps up to the second floor and into the room where the show was to be and it was a real courtroom! Some people were coming in for a bellydancing class as the building was now used as an arts center. We wandered down to the local irish pub and cheered to our safe travels and making it to what was more or less the half way point of tour. Our Savannah show had cancelled so barring some last minute show we would be heading to Florida after. A couple friends from my stint in the Marines came to the show and it was really cool to catch up. It is weird how long it's been and how different we are now. They're both daddies and I doubt I'm far behind but for a night we were just kicking back at a show like we used to way back when. We meandered back to the address to set up. A couple really cool dudes, Mike Gentry and Fernando Pena helped get the show together. The Not Likelys played and were really amazing. They have a song called "Weight In Gold" that I can't get out of my head! We played second and played really well. Unfortunately my back has been hurting lately (so thank God for the day off!) so I wasn't as jumpy and headbangy as usual but it sounded great in that huge room. The ceiling had to be like 30 feet high and lined with rich mahogany! After the show we drove back to Charlotte and crashed with John from the Not Likelys. 1.5 episodes into a season of It's Always Sunny, I was out like a light. The next day, a 6 hour drive, some Mario DS, and Cracker Barrel crapfests later - we're here at Earnest's house. There are some really sweet shows coming up so I wanted to check in with everyone before I forget! Thanks for your support and if we haven't come through yet - stand by to be earsexed!

Angry Primate Tour kick off http://feeds.artistdata.com/a-AR-X117AEDHA558FZQL/ADN-BG-3FBC7AACA3A75975 Blog entry by RJ

7/19: I'm savoring the flavor of Steve's delicious tomato bean rice concoction from the comfort of the Adams brothers home just outside Panama City, FL. Last night was a proper send off at A&M Theater. Rogues Gallery opened the show with an amazing set. They were missing their drummer but you couldn't tell with all the intensity and melodica solos flying around. Car On Fire played next and tore it up. We followed with a great kick off set and having Trace fill in on trumpet was amaze-balls! We were followed by Lost In The Sauce and Nothing Short Of Pure into the wee hours of the morn. We retreated to the house and partook in festivities including copious amounts of liquor, musical instruments, and singing - a rogues gallery for sure! Great tour kick off!

7/20: The Handlebar show was a last minute fill in orchestrated by John Sisson of Diversity Is An Old Wooden Ship, but you certainly couldn't tell from the show. We played with TPS Reports (Jeff & Josh from Stick City Mafia) and the Handsome Scoundrels out of Mobile. After a belly full of chinese buffet (thanks to Steve's Dad!) we farted our way to Tarragonna street and played a righteous set. The crowd at Handlebar really made us feel at home and we appreciate everyone coming together to support us!

7/21: NEW ORLEANS! We got in early for the 4pm show at a really sweet art gallery called The Zeitgeist. It was in a wierd part of town that seemed to be ghetto but walking around the area we got smiles and waves - maybe we're just really cool I guess. We played with ComRec bands The Rooks and The Lollies. It had been over a year since we were in NOLA so it was really great to get back over there and we'll definitely be back more often (if that city doesn't kill us that is). After the show we went back to Rob & Greg's practice spot. It sounds basic but it was a really cool house in the north end maybe 15 blocks from Bourbon. Greg and the boys grabbed some beers, burgers, and veggies and did it up right! After the cook out we went to Frenchman St. for Mr. Barfield's wild ride! I have to say having Trace the past couple days has felt like the old Call For Fire days and I love it! NOLA has hardened him for sure as I imagine it would anyone. I couldn't keep up and racked out early (5am).

7/22: Our show in Auburn was scheduled at the Independent but they closed down a week before our show so Luke from Blame Sydney orchestrated a house party that we played at - (b t dubs Luke and Blame Sydney are sweet dudes if you ever get a chance to see/hang with them - do it!). We played with a cool band from Birmingham, AL called Hurl-yeah! and Blame Sydney headlined. It was a really fun set in the common area of a 4 bedroom house. We turned the lights out and Royal put on a strobe light in the middle of the room. I bought a multi-colored headlamp before leaving and put that on so it was basically like the "Enter Sandman" video by Metallica... except with goofy faces and horns! We stayed at Luke's house before getting up early and heading to MSR4

7/23: MASS SKA RAID! The biggest ska festival in the southeast is certainly picking up steam in it's 4th year. Having played every year (1 with Call For Fire and 3 with CMB) I have to say this one was the biggest and baddest! There were tons of local bands and near local bands that made the continual running between hell and purgatory stages essential. The only crappy thing is Masquerade is following the Warped example of charging out the wazoo for drinks, parking, no re-entry, etc. Some of the highlights of my night personally were: Corporate Fandango, El Chupaskabra, The Beat Officers, and Stuck Lucky. It was a monster sweat fest but our set (which was awesomely positioned in the middle of kick ass bands) was absolutely radicool - best set we've played at MSR yet! The great thing about MSR too is that almost everyone hung out for the headlining band Taj Motel Trio and they totally wrecked it - those guys wreck it every time we play with them! After the show we went over to Reed's house for some de-hydrated, re-beer-ated tomfoolery. Somehow I've managed a shower every day - I'm totally impressed with myself!

7/24: Last night we played at the Milestone in Charlotte, NC. This place totally made me think of the Shed in Tallahassee, but with a beer/liquor license. John from the Not Likelys got something going for us with JoJo Taterhead Revival (I missed some of their set at MSR but got to see them up close last night and they really ripped it - I can't wait to play with them again), Rape Whistle, and Sid and the Lipshits. Very interesting line-up and a fun show. After the show we fliped Chris Welch's terminator switch and drove to Steve's mom's house where we're at now playing Magic and bloggin it up! We're leaving soon for an amazing show tonight with Rust Belt Lights, Take It Back and more. Talk to you guys soon!

Community Records Block Party in New Orleans!!! http://feeds.artistdata.com/a-AR-X117AEDHA558FZQL/ADN-BG-6C617128BF370BBA Blog entry by Quinn

So I gotta say I am super-stoked to be playing Block Party in New Orleans! This will be one of the biggest shows we have ever played. There are some amazing bands playing, and I already know we got fans all over the southeast making the drive. Im sure there will be a ton of carpools. We will be sure to get down with our boys in Joystick, hit up Bourbon Street, then hopefully I can convince Roth and a few others to get down on some Texas Hold'em at Harrah's! We're gonna get some hazy memories out of this day! Tickets and full details are available at the Community Records website! Hope to see you there! - Quinn

END OF YEAR BLOG! PLEASE READ! http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=457545981&blogId=521613190 Blog entry by Brad

Hey guys! Happy holidays to you all from Camp C.M.B. just wanted to touch base with everyone to let people know whats going on with us, and what to expect in the upcoming months.First off, yes, WE ARE RECORDING!!! It is an incredible process to say the least as we are working with Mr. Russ Castillio, who has a long list of credentials including being the man who single handedly broke the band "Big Bad Voodoo Daddy" and being an engineer on the GOD DAMN WALL BY "PINK FLOYD". how he ended up being able to put up with us still boggles me, but its been a great chemistry and i think the record will show it. It will officially be an 11 song first full length CD, currently entitled "Tales from Virginia Street" and it will have some songs off the demo plus all new ones. were very excited and you should be too. a release date as well as a release show will be coming up, so keep tabs on us, fans and bands alike cuz we want you there and our favorite bands playing with us...ok, moving onWe just scraped our nickles and dimes together and we are currently in the process of getting our tour van back from the shop. (Josh if you are reading this, tell your father in law we are so sorry, thanks for being patient and the checks in the mail lol). This of course means.....drum roll...TOURING!!! We have a show coming up in Orlando for Swamp Cabbage Records whom we have a song being released on their new comp. I EXPECT ALL YOU ORLANDO KIDS TO BE THERE!!!!! that will tentatively be our last show of the year unless we decide to do a house show or something for new years. we will be taking some time off to finish recording and work our asses off to dig us out of this huge financial hole we put ourselves in (hello....any lable out there??? lol) but fuck it. its our music and what we love so we will always find ways to make it happen. Either way keep an eye out for shows starting th beginning of the year, especially the CD release, as it should be nearing completion.Other than that we hope all of you friends and bands have a safe and happy holiday. if anyone wants to hit us up for shows, or needs help booking please let us know. anyone want to tour together? HIT US UP!!! 2010 should be a fun and exciting year, so get ready for it!!!BRADCMB]]>

Blog written about CMB on BeAtlanta.com! http://www.beatlanta.com/blog/2009/8/10/chilled-monkey-brains-of-tallahassee-fl.html Read about our adventures at Mass Ska Raid II!]]> Sun, 16 Aug 2009 20:30:39 +0000 ADN-NW-NUMZHZSCPSL10781 Origins Tour Blog (Part One) http://feeds.artistdata.com/a-AR-X117AEDHA558FZQL/ADN-BG-V44JUTDP9CL1IFA3 Blog entry by RJ

Alright! So we're representing up here in Georgia and I wanted to drop a line and let everyone know how things are going. We've been having a blast so far -
Day 1: Tallahassee
So we got started at home with a kick ass kick off show at Castlemania. For those of you who know the old Call In Sick venue The Shed, Castlemania is like a clean, soundly constructed, and legal version of The Shed. For those that don't, Castlemania is attached to the Engine Room (formerly the Beta Bar/Cow Haus), and is pretty much the sweetest diy space I've ever had the pleasure of utilizing. We played with 50:50 Shot, Out Of Nothing, and Unit 6, all friends of ours from our former bands. Unit 6 was awesome, really tight and on their shit. No offense to the former members whom we've had many good times with but their current line-up is the tightest I've heard, they really ripped it! I hope they have a great time on the huge ass tour they're on right now. 50:50 Shot played next. I hadn't seen them in a long time and there are rumors of their imminent break up (don't worry, I won't let them break up!). I couldn't see that in their set, they blew everyone away - amazing band, we were really excited to spend the next few dates with them. Our hommies from Out Of Nothing started wrapping it up, it seems like every time I see them they get better or sound better, I don't get it. OON is another band who is on the cusp of change, Logan is moving to tallahassee for Law School (sweet! an addition to our nerd crew!) but the guys plan on continuing in some form and I can't wait to see what they do.
Day 2: Pensacola
We had problems with Uhaul ordering the wrong hitch so we decided to just go to Pensacola for the night, come back and get the hitch and our trailer the next day before jetting to New Orleans. So we had just bought this van a dropped a few grand into it to get her through the next few thousand miles. Its a 92 Chevy van and we have yet to settle on a name for her, but she is very comfortable! We showed up to the Handlebar to Out Of Nothing smiles and ass pats. The show went very well, it was us, 50:50 Shot and Out Of Nothing... and cupcakes. Lizzy made some fantastic cupcakes for us that really hit the spot - we're coming back for more Lizzy! So I volunteer to drive back to Pensacola and of course this shit goes down while I'm driving (wtf?). We get onto I-10 and I feel a slight bump as the steering stiffens up. Since I know jack about vehicles other than where to put the gas and oil, I continue for about 10 miles until I see the temperature gauge go really high. We pulled over and stared at the engine for around 40 minutes. We know its overheating but not why, it's times like this I really miss my old tenor sax player/auto mechanic Kurt! The temp goes down (actually we just melted the gauge) and we try to get to the next exit (which is like 20 miles away). It was either Holt or Crestview where we pulled into a gas station and realized we shredded the serpantine belt which made perfect sense now that we were staring at shreds of rubber hanging out of the bottom of the engine. It was 4:30 am and we were in the middle of nowhere so Rafe, Quinn, and I left Brad, Chris, Steve, and Roth at a quaint little picnic spot and got the van towed to the nearest shop that was open on a saturday. After dropping a few hundred on towing, a tension arm and belt, we were able to swing back by and pick up the boys around 10 am. There was no time to get back to tally, hitch and trailer the van, and still make it to New Orleans so we decided to extend our 1 day trip and just head to NOLA hoping to play off of another bands gear. This would not be hard to do, I was already getting voice messages from the other bands calculating ways to get us over there.
-side note: I have to say that one thing I love about this whole ska-whatever scene is that the coalition of bands along the southeast really goes out of their way to take care of eachother, its more of a family than a scene. I mean, Angry Banana wanted to come pick us up, Joystick offered to have someone come out to us with burgers and beer, really just over the top affection from our brothers and sisters - try and get that kind of action in any other scene!
Day 3: NOLA!
Since we collectively got like an hour and a half of sleep it's hard to differentiate between day 2 and 3. We rode to Guitar Center where Josh from Out Of Nothing works to get some hitch action in the hopes of taking a couple days off to get our shit together. With a smile on our faces and "the worst" behind us, we headed for the Mecca of southeastern ska - New Orleans! About 20 feet from guitar center (of course, I am driving again) we start shooting billows of white smoke from our exhaust pipe. Apparently we had run the van so hot last night, we had either busted a head gasket (fingers crossed it was the head gasket - we still don't know), or (eek!) cracked the block. After about a half hour of feeling sorry for ourselves, Rafe did some upside down handstands (see photos) and made us all crack up. "Fuck this! We are going to New Orleans even if it kills us!" - we wouldn't let this seemingly tour ending problem screw us out of all the fun we were going to have. We rented a van (actually Mark from Out Of Nothing rented us a van - thanks sweatheart!) and hightailed it to NOLA only to arrive right after Joystick's set. That was a bummer for me, Trace and Kurt (Call For Fire's trumpet and tenor sax) were now in Joystick living in New Orleans. But that didn't damper the rest of the show. 50:50 Shot, Stereohype, Angry Banana, and Paranoia Dance Party rounded out this supremely awesome skabeque. The show was phenominal, the crowd in NOLA is ALWAYS awesome! After the show we went to Trace's house. He has a sweet little place off of Frenchman street and now that Trace and Kurt were "locals" we got to see a side of NOLA we had never experienced before. After a night of heavy boozing and Brad and Chris getting "lost" for 4 hours after going a block to the store, the boys woke up early to get the rental back to Tallahassee. My wife Fronki came out and suprised me in NOLA so I was able to sleep in which was really nice after being up for like 2 days. We went to breakfast the next day at a place called Elizabeth's (freakin awesome bfast, get the bloody mary!) and after getting a nice tour of the area I headed back to Tallahassee so we could lick our wounds and figure out how to salvage the rest of the tour.
Days 4 through 8: Marooned in Florida
With the repairs needed for the van we knew we wouldn't get it back for awhile so we slapped a ball on Brad's Chevy Envoy and attached my huge 6x12 trailer. Unfortunately we had to cancel dates in Birmingham, Memphis and Knoxville which really sucked but we hope to make it back up there as soon as we can!
Day 9: Peachtree City
Georgia on my mind! We arrived at the Glenloch Community Center to have the Lifeguard/door guy giving us loads of shit. Jack, or Frank as we came to call him ended up being our guide for the evening. The show was really cool. Cryptorchid Chipmunk, The Disregardables, Cream Soda Joe, Expect Resistance, and DSK played a killer show in a yoga gym before we headed with Frank and Jordy to a house party. On the way to the party we received our official Georgia names. Brad is Tiny, Roth is Scary, Chris is Dickname Dan, Quinn (who was celebrating his 17th birthday! okay, 20 something birthday) was Keith, and Steve, Rafe, and I were the Back Drunk Boys (kind of like the Soggy Bottom Boys 3 deep in the cargo compartment of the envoy singing harmonies), but we eventually got our individual names: Rafe is Ooper, Steve is Flounder, and I got the name Kansas. We showed up with 40s and were apparently the only people prepared to really party. I actually cracked up so bad: I was the first into the living room while most of the guys were chilling on the porch. A kid was making the rounds collecting beer money for the many thirsty and was asked how he planned on buying this beer, his response: "oh, there's a bunch of old dudes on the porch!"
We crashed with Jordan (Disregardables/Cream Soda Joe) and Chris called the scoliosis couch - he's actually been sleeping in the most uncomfortable spots all tour so far. The next day we walked some of the 800+ miles of golfcart track that fills Peachtree City to pick up some burgers and dogs for a good ole cook out. After waiting at least an hour, we headed to the pool for our "bath" then off to Lawrenceville!
Day 10: Lawrenceville
I think all venues should be comic book stores, you'd never get bored and although you'll probably spend more money than you'd make on the show - you know its money well spent. We arrived at Galactic Quest comics and our eyes were as big as baseballs. In case no one knew, we are a band full of nerds. Steve and I immediately bought the next two volumes of Star Wars Legacy (which is tempting me to read even now - but no! I gotta save it for the long rides!) and we settled in as if we were in a library studying for some comic book exam. The show was outstanding, it was just us and 50:50 Shot playing for the Hero initiative benefit and having loads of fun. After the show we headed into downtown Atlanta and hung out with 50:50 Shot. Around 50 beers and a game of Apples to Apples later we were zonked out!
Day 11: The Butcher of Buford
Usually days off aren't what guys like us want to do while we're on tour, but then again, we usually aren't staying with Butch and Brandon in Buford. Its like a comic book store at someones house. We've been spending the last day and a half drinking beer, reading comics, eating ribs, jerk chicken, and pork loin, and wearing kilts... yes kilts. I think I am going to get one, they are so comfortable! I'm totally jealous that girls get to wear skirts but guys have to suffer in our oppressive slacks and board shorts. It's just not fair!
Day 12: Dalton
So here we are getting fed and taken care of about to head to Dalton for our next show, then its back to the Sunshine state for the final loop. Talk to you guys soon!
