Song Revelation May 5 2011
Artist Interview – Indofin
May 4, 2011 By Kevin Leave a Comment

Indofin are an indie fusion band from Austin, Texas consisting of TJ Huerta (guitar & vocals), Albert Huang (bass), Donny Mann (drums) and Eric Tussing (lead guitar and drums). Despite their busy schedule this spring they kindly agreed to complete an interview for Song Revelation. Read on to find out what their currently working on, which modern day artists they are inspired by and what it’s like living in Austin!

Indofin
Nonprofit by indofin

Q: If you could classify your music in a genre or a number of genres what would it be?

Reggae, ska, punk, rock with subtle influences of metal, funk, hiphop, and country.

Q: If you could use a tagline of less than 20 words to describe your music and who you are what would it be?

“Indofin effectively fuses thick grooving skank basslines with consistent reggaedub drumming, & in your face reggae punk guitar chords and melodic rock vocals to create a distinct sound that will make people wanna party.”

Q: What is your musical background?

We’ve been playing together in this band for about a decade. Since 2005, we’ve toured around the US 4-5 times, played Warped Tour in 2007, played at Wakarusa Festival last year, and supported shows for many of today’s national touring acts and independent bands including Voodoo Glow Skulls, The Expendables, and The Supervillains just to name a few. TJ originally played drums before Indofin, Albert played bass in various Austin local bands before Indofin and is currently studying at Berklee college of Music, Eric played guitar with a few bands and also worked various jobs in Austin involving live sound and music gear rentals, and Donny has always played drums in Indofin

Q: How was 2010 for you?

It was a good year. It was actually the one year where we had actually set goals at the beginning and we were luckily able to accomplish most of those goals, including the recording of the new album 2X Broken, the local CD release shows were all on schedule according to plan, and it was a blast playing at Wakarusa. We didn’t even play 10 shows last year, but we were definitely more focused than usual!

Q: Who inspires you musically?

Everything and everyone

Q: Which modern day artists do you look up to?

It ranges from Cannibal Corpse to Sublime, and everything in between: Tenacious D, Lyrics Born, Big Boi, Foo Fighters, Fishbone, just to name a few.

Q: Is there anyone you would like to collaborate or gig with?

Sure, Rancid, Rebelution, Damian Marley, Barrington Levy, Easy Star all Stars, etc.

Q: What songs are on your ipod at the moment?

Music used in the show “Eastbound and Down”

Q: What is your creative process for creating a track?

Drinks, herbs and time

Q: What’s more important, melody or lyrics?

Melody for sure.

Q: Where are you based?

Austin TX.

Q: What’s it like being where you’re from?

Like anywhere, it has its ups and downs. We love living in Austin and we probably will always live here, but we don’t really like the music industry hype and the highly cutthroat competitive scene that seems to get bigger and more difficult to deal with each year, as more and more people move here from California with their corporate sponsors and innovative ideas to turn Austin into a small Hollywood.

Q: What are you currently working on?

Indofin is beginning to write new songs that will be on a possible EP to be released at the end of the year. Also, we recently resurrected our thrash metal punk band Bohemian Grove Disco, which features TJ on drums, Albert on bass, Eric on guitar, and our buddy Brian on vocals. We played in this band briefly back in 2005 right before Indofin’s first album/tour.

Also, we’ve just recently decided to get it going again and to play a few gigs this summer….. no telling for how long….

Q: What’s been the highlight of your career to date?

Wakarusa Festival and any show where we we’ve been able to open for a sold out club

Q: What are you hoping to achieve in 2011?

Honestly, if we made it to 2012, that would be ok with us.

Q: Do you have any gigs or shows that you’d like to tell us about?

Indofin does not have anything currently scheduled but we’re sure we’ll play in our hometown at least once this summer. BGD(Bohemian Grove Disco) will actually be playing our first reunion show on Saturday June 11 at Plush Bar in downtown Austin. Eric’s other new band “Fine and Dandy” will be opening and surely, some other cool bands will be playing.

Q: What do you do to relax?

Get high, drink, eat, hang out and sleep

Q: Is there anything else you’d like to let our readers know about?

There’s some new album bundlepacks are available at our website www.indofinmusic.com. There’s also a free download for anyone who joins our mailing list.

Editor’s Note: Indofin are undoubtedly a band that loves what they do. The diversity and originality of their uplifting Indie tracks are enjoyable from start to finish.

Review of Indofin - 2X Broken -Aaron Joy's Music Blog http://feeds.artistdata.com/a-AR-TBVT7MPP2UEAPJ9K/ADN-NW-ACF1FDBEDFE84739

Review of Indofin - 2X Broken [- Hide] Aaron Joy's Music Blog Thursday, June 16, 2011 Indofin ~ 2X Broken Style: ska, reggae, punk Label: self-released Year: 2010 Home: Austin, Texas Members: T.J. Huerta ~ guitar/vocals Albert Huang ~ bass Donald Mann ~ drums Laidback power pop & a dominating reggae/ska beat awashes Indofin’s second self-release. But, don’t read this thinking No Doubt. If you need a comparison go more for Keith Richards reggae with the X-Pensive Winos but not so rough & more ska than reggae for those that know the difference. For those that don’t … it’s the backbeat strum of the guitar without the rasta attitude. “Nonprofit” is a standout with its heavy drum/backbeat ska rhythm reminiscent of Matisyahu while the similiar sounding “Princess” would be great for a tribute album about the beach as it sounds like music to wait for a big wave with. These tracks stand out because they play up the rhythmic ska aspect, something the album suffers from. It never goes far enough ska nor hard enough rock, though there are a few rockin’ guitar solos sprinkled throughout, while retaining a pretty laid back pace that doesn’t push in either direction. I’d recommend letting the songs last longer than 3 minutes as currently the album stands as a lot of short little tunes that blend & lack personality instead of accentuating each other. A few more developed tunes would help the flow of the album a lot & provide some much needed diversity. More time means more groove & a crescendo here & there wouldn’t hurt either. “Whatever”, another standout track, comes close to this. Posted by Aaron Joy, RMM Owner at 9:36 PM Email This BlogThis! Something For Your Ears -- Indofin

Indofin is a band from Texas who has a mix of ska-punk-reggae that may remind you of Sublime or 311. But if you listen further you will hear something unique. (see the band bio)

The track, "Honey" is off of the bands' album 2X Broken. If you like what you hear, check out the links below and pick the album up. Support the artist!

STOLI HEADS TO SXSW AND MEETS UP WITH INDOFIN

March 15, 2011 | by Skope

I do not have to tell Skope readers that most music lovers are partying & experiencing amazing music down in Austin, TX this week for SXSW. So I decided to feature a band from Austin by the name of Indofin. I must warn you this interview is no holds barred so hide the children. The fact that the music these guys make is so good that it makes it okay. Join us as we offer an MP3 of “Fingerfight” from the album ’2X Broken’ and check them live on March 18 in Austin at The Dorm Room. Let the SXSW festivities begin!

Stoli: Where are we talking from today and is Austin, TX getting ready for SXSW?

Albert, TJ Donny and Eric – Yes Austin TX, and yes this town is getting ready for SXSW.

Stoli: Do you have plans to attend/play SXSW and if so please let us know?

Albert: Yes, we’re not officially a part of SXSW but we will be playing a show as part of the 12th Annual Texas Rockfest, going on downtown Austin as well next week, we’ll be performing at the Dorm Room 422 6th St. Austin TX  on Friday Mar. 18 @ 7:15pm, totally free show.

Stoli: How has being Autsin based help you grow musically & within the industry?

TJ: None at all.
Albert: I’d almost agree, but we have met many good hardworking bands that deserve to make it.

Stoli: What is the meaning of “Indofin” in how it defines your band & sound?

Eric: Music.
TJ: Weed smoke.

Stoli: Were you three friends before the band and what inspired you to take your passion of music to a new level?

Albert: I answered an ad looking for a bass player years ago when we were all still young.  Eric left at one point before our first tour, and he just recently came back for our latest CD release. We’ve been friends since.

Stoli: I love your song “Honey”. What is the background story for that song being composed?

TJ: Booze.
Eric: And your girl’s puss.

Stoli: Bands like yours are able to merge genres and make it sound amazing. Was that your original intention or did it just happen?

Albert: We’re just playing what we wanna play.

“Fingerfight” MP3: http://www.skopemag.com/audio/Fingerfight.mp3

Stoli: Who are two other bands that merge genres that you really enjoy & listen to?

Eric: Snow, & White Zombie
Albert: Streetlight manifesto, & sts9

Stoli: Is it okay that I enjoy your music best when I am outside with herbals & a Guinness?

TJ: Weed is illegal and morally wrong.
Eric: Wrong.
Albert: Do whatever you want, it sounds pretty good if you’re sober too.

Stoli: Your album ’2X Broken’ came out last year. Where can we grab a copy and what are you most proud of that work?

Albert: Its available directly from our website, www.indofinmusic.com or you can get it throug CDBaby Itunes, Amazon, and Enusic to name a few  You can link to all those places from our website.

Stoli: I like to live my life the way your music sounds, smooth & soulful. Any advice you can offer for people on the go 24/7 like me to chill out?

Albert: Don’t piss off your family, you never know when you may need their help.

Stoli: Do you  think its cool to show up in an egg to the Grammy’s like Lady Gaga or is that just hype?

Eric: Yes
TJ: F$%# you – Winning!

Stoli: What is coming up for Indofin and where can we follow you guys online?

Altert: Myspace, facebook, twitter, Itunes, Last FM, Jango, reverbnation, etc, you can reach all of them from our website  www.indofinmusic.com.

March update, Texas Rockfest, SXSW Comp, vote for Indofin to play Warped Ernie Ball Stage, keep ... http://feeds.artistdata.com/a-AR-TBVT7MPP2UEAPJ9K/ADN-NW-A648BE4CDB97C8A4 Hey everyone, we know it's been awhile but we have a few things going on lately.  Again, thanks to everyone who was at Momo's last month to celebrate Bob Marley's Birthday, we had an absolute blast, props to TX NORML and the other bands.   Our next hometown gig coming up will be a free show during SXSW week in Austin, we'll be playing as part of the TX Rockfest at The Dorm Room on downtown 6th St., so if you're visiting in our town that week, please do stop by, we'll be playing at 715p on Friday Mar. 18, mention this email to me and I'll buy you a drink.  As you probably know a bunch of bands will be playing in Austin that week, but for those without wristbands  who are into reggae rock, this would be the place to be on that day, FAYUCA from Arizona will be playing right after us too.   Also you should go check out our friend Phive's 3 day reggae festival ATX Wildfire in its second year, I think it's gonna be in Austin at a bar called Weirdo's in North Austin away from all the downtown commotion.  One of our songs, "Fingerfight", will also be included on the Berklee College of Music's compilation CD for SXSW, they will  probably be complimentary free giveaway items at their SXSW daytime party which I believe will be happening on Friday afternoon Mar. 18 at some bar  downtown(look it up on google).

Indofin will be performing @ The Dorm Room in Downtown 6th St. Austin, at 845pm Friday Mar. 18 2011. Absolutely NO COVER FREE to the PUBLIC.

We wanna thank everyone who's checked out our new album 2X Broken and given us feedback, the response has been pretty good and we just started our college radio campaign nationwide, so hopefully you may hear us getting regular airplay if you're in the right town, if you want to hear us more, just call your local station and request us, it still works.  If you'd like to help promote us in your town, simply send an email to streetteam@indofinmusic.com and include your mailing address and we'll gladly mail you some sampler CDs and you'll have our permission to burn additional CDs or download on to your computer to email to your friends or post on your social networks.  As always we give away a free download of a different song each month.   This month's featured download is our song "Princess", its a good one.  Also we have several bundle options available for the new album, they all include a digital download of the album, indofin logo sticker, a limited edition poster while supplies last.

For those of you who live near us, you could possibly help in getting us onto the Ernie Ball Stage at Warped this summer at the San Antonio date.  We've done this the last few years, some of you may be familiar with how it works.  To be a judge you need to register a fan account at www.battleofthebands.com, and from there you can pretty much cast a vote for as many of hte bands you want once a day, and you can do this everyday until the date of the show.  Don't worry it's totally free to participate and they won't send you a bunch of spam and there's four songs of ours you can listen to free of charge.   We only have to be in the top 100 bands competing for the San Antonio date, so please do keep voting even if we're not in first place because they final judges will actually end up picking four bands out of the top 100.  Not a lot of reggae bands on this year's lineup, so we may actually have a chance.

Also be on the lookout for the Bonnaroo contest we're gonna be involved in thru Sonicbids, it doesn't begin till April but we will definitely need your support and votes, more details TBA.

So thats it for now, any future plans of ours largely depends on all of you, we look forward to seeing some of you in Austin in a couple weeks, and also coming soon, BGD- Bohemian Grove Disco, a badass thrashpunk side project TJ and I played in five years ago, will be resurrected and playing some gigs live in Austin this spring.  Just keep checking back for updates.
One love, Indofin (Albert, TJ, Eric, and Donny)

Indofin
2X Broken
Indofin has come out with another fun and great album. 2X broken is filled with all sorts of songs that vary from slow and mellow to songs that are upbeat and electrifying. If you like any band from The Dirty Heads to Slightly Stoopid you will enjoy this band and their album.
Track 1: Nonprofit- The vocals on this laid-back track is amazing. Nonprofit has an upbeat reggae feel to it. There is an amazing electric guitar solo part that only makes this song even better. This song perfectly reflects their reggae attributes.
Track 2: Sunshine- With sunshine as a title you would think it would be upbeat, but it in fact has a somewhat dark slow feel to it. The pace starts off slow, but it increases but still remains a slow tempo song. The lyric express a sense of need of help and stress and is only asking for a positive outlook on things.

Track 3- 2X Broken – This title track perfectly fits the description of the title. It starts off slow, and then it instantly turns up the pace. This is where the band shows you their skapunk side. The lyrics are spot on.

More Feedback about the new album Indofin- 2X Broken

Indofin

Indofin -Fingerfight FM 102X Song of the Day

Photobucket

Indofin, together since 2002, is an unusually unique skapunkreggae power trio from Austin TX. From these very modest beginnings and years spent at what seemed like futile efforts, Indofin has certainly come a long way, becoming one of the defining bands of the central Texas skapunk scene. They managed to play showcases during SXSW from 2003-2007 and even earned a spot on the Vans Warped Tour in 2007. Since the release of their self titled debut album in the spring of 2005, the band has played over 300 shows in over 50 US cities, as well as doing extensive regional touring around their home state TX. Indofin has always maintained a strong DIY work ethic, booking five of their own tours, and they have never had a label, an agent, or manager. They have been fortunate enough to share the stage with many of the nation's touring acts including Voodoo GlowSkulls, Badfish Sublime Tribute, The Expendables, Outlaw Nation, The Stingers, The Supervillains, and many more.

Musical FERN TV Indofin Tried Tested True http://feeds.artistdata.com/a-AR-TBVT7MPP2UEAPJ9K/ADN-NW-95BB28D2572ABB74 TUESDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2010 Oct. 6 2010 MUSICAL FERN- Tried, Tested and True

Indofin is bigger, better and stronger musically in new album...

Watch Indofin on FERNTV

They say that what does not kill you makes you stronger and many of the uphill battles that Indofin has fought throughout their musical careers have blown others bands into dust. It has been quite the journey for these musical troopers from Austin, Texas. and everything but the kitchen sink has been thrown in their way to get to the top. The things you cannot calculate in life is experience and lets just say that Indofin has a great amount of it. 2X Broken is an album from Indofin that best exemplifies how far they have come to get to this point. Whether they are infusing reggae, ska or punk in their music, their sound is definitely on point with a lot of soul. FERNTV caught with Indofin's bassist Albert Huang to discuss this triumph...

FERNTV: What was the first reaction to the band's sound of reggae/ska/punk deep in the heart of Texas?

Albert: For a lot of people it's quite refreshing amidst all the Texan country/blues bands around. But there's every kind of music in Austin and there's definitely an audience for the reggae/ska/punk sound, but people get so oversaturated with so much music that the local reggae ska bands usually go underappreciated or unnoticed. Usually if we open for a touring act like The Supervillains or The Expendables is usually when the local bands need to capitalize on reaching their core audience in Austin.

FERNTV: This is not an easy genre to master let alone create songs...is that true?

Albert: It's not hard to create songs, but it's definitely a difficult genre to master, especially if you're like us and trying to create something that doesn't necessarily adhere to all the rules or boundaries of the reggae or ska or punk genres. We're sort of a band thats always been going through a weird identity crisis and sometimes we're not even clear on what it is we want to be. We just like playing our songs and people end up saying we sound like Sublime.

FERNTV: From your perspective, do you feel being from Austin that you get a home field advantage playing SXSW?

Albert: Not really, actually the bands in SXSW that tend to get the most attention are not from here and they are not usually in the reggae or ska punk genre. Austin's a hip trendy Hollywood type city that a lot of up and coming bands from all over start out playing the smaller clubs in town, like the White Stripes first became well known in Austin before the rest of the world. Lately people seem to be into the electronic/dubstep scenes or indierock/experimental type music.

I even remember seeing the band Pepper a couple years ago playing to a sold out Stubbs Amphitheater and they were even saying they never get selected for an official showcase at SXSW. But there are some great unofficial gigs during that week, last year we played a MusicGorilla showcase and ATX Wildfire, which was a two day free event a friend of ours Phive put together w/ about 20 bands, local and international. That was the first one so hopefully over the years to come that will escalate the reggae scene. We've never actually played an official SXSW showcase either, but we play a few unofficial gigs every year and every year there seem to be more and more unofficial showcases.

FERNTV: You are among a handful of bands out there who do not work with a manager...why did your band choose this route and how does this work to your advantage?

Albert: We wish we had a manager who was on top of us for everything and constantly had an agenda, sometimes when managing ourselves we lose sight of what our goals are or we just get lazy and procrastinate. We've just never really met anyone we trusted enough to make our manager, so we continuously just learning how to manage ourselves. Personally I try to do at least one thing each day for the band, even if it's just something small or minor. But we do feel that we're in complete control of our career and everything is actually our decision.

FERNTV: Can you explain how Indofin is stronger than ever?

Albert: We have learned from many experiences over the years, our sound is progressing and evolving, and we are slightly better at treating the band like a business. It wasn't until recently that we got all our copyrights and publishing, and incorporation taken care of, and we slowly learning about how to do our accounting, which is crucial.

FERNTV: Tell us a little bit about this new album you have released?

Albert: Well this is an album that we used to talk about releasing but it was anyone's guess when that was going to be. After doing four tours nationally in support of our first album in 2005, we were burned out from touring, and we were ready to stay home and record some new songs, but we had no money left or saved. And we really never had a clear plan of action. Some personal problems ensued and some members left the band or just weren't that committed anymore, we had to cancel our fifth tour over the summer of 2008, and it looked like the end might be near. I went back to school to study a year long recording arts program in Austin, which is where we met local producer Ben Blank. He had heard some of our music because I was basically recording the band at school during my studio time. Anyway Ben had us over to his home studio in West Austin every Monday for about four months and that's how our new album "2X Broken" came about. We think it's our best work yet and the songs' subject matter are really definitive of the many issues each of us were going through in our lives.

Indofin Is Tearing New Ground With Their Cd Release On Itunes http://mog.com/alberth1916/blog/2391150

Seasoned band Indofin has taken their band to the next level. Starting out in 2002 this band has developed and continues to grow their fan base and provide quality music throughout the United States. From the beginning in 2002 Indofin has come a long way. This band has established itself from others that attempt to create inspiring music by offering music that fuses several genres to create mystifying sound. "Indofin effectively combines grooving skank basslines with reggaedub drumming, punk-influenced distorted guitars, and melodic rock vocals to create a unique sound that will make people wanna party," say Indofin. Coming off great success the band just recently came off tour. They have been fortunate enough to share the stage with many of the nation's touring acts including Voodoo GlowSkulls, Badfish Sublime Tribute, The Expendables, Outlaw Nation, The Stingers, The Supervillains, and many more. Not only has Indofin gained national publicity, but they are beginning to expand their music worldwide. Overcoming many obstacles such as different members having different agendas, this group has still managed to triumph. "We just had too much great music that we hadn't recorded yet, and we really didn't have it in us to start a whole new band from scratch. We're all in our thirties!" said bassist Albert Huang. Indofin by no measure are rookies in the game. With releasing their second CD and putting together there next release this band has more in store for their fans. Be sure to check them out on social networks like Twitter, FaceBook, and YouTube for more details. The band also has a professional website for booking and upcoming shows.

Indofin, Featured Independent Artist on SuchCoolStuff.net Sept. 1 2010 http://mog.com/alberth1916/blog/2292006 Indofin

Indofin, together since 2002, is a skapunkreggae quartet from Austin TX. From these very modest beginnings, Indofin has certainly come a long way, becoming one of the defining bands of the central Texas scene. They managed to play showcases during SXSW from 2003-2007 and even earned a spot on Texas dates of Vans Warped Tour in 2007. Since the release of their self-titled debut album in the spring of 2005, the band has played over 300 shows in over 50 US cities, as well as doing extensive regional touring around their home state of Texas. Despite playing with bands of every imaginable category, the band continues to stick out like a sore thumb in the central Texas live music scene, refusing to confine their music to the boundaries of any particular genre. Stripped down now to 3 of the 5 original members, the band is taking their sound in a fresh new direction for the next record, but fans will still be able to experience the raw energy and intensity that Indofin puts into every live performance.

This eclectic group of misunderstood punker sluts released their second album on July 13 2010, and they also added former lead guitarist and founding member Eric Tussing to the band's permanent lineup. Eric had previously left the band five years ago before the band's first tour, and without much effort, he has made a seamless transition back to the band's sound and has had a positive effect on the band's music in the live setting. In the last few years, the band has endured numerous obstacles (carjackings, stolen equipment, drug & alcohol addiction etc.) and they often learned the hard way many of the cruel realities of the music industry, yet their uncompromising dedication to their craft remains stronger than ever. Indofin's staying around awhile, so be sure to check out a show if you get the chance; you won't regret it and it might even change your life.

-& a brief interview w/bassist Albert Huang from Indofin--->

How do you describe your music to people, Albert?
Indofin effectively combines grooving skank basslines with reggaedub drumming punk-influenced distorted guitars, and melodic rock vocals to create a unique sound that will make people wanna party.

Tell me about how you originally got into your craft
.
My parents made me play violin since I was 4 till I was about 15. I really hated it; they made me practice daily. I quit when I was old enough, and in high school, I started playing some guitar, learning on my own based on what I already knew from childhood. My friends in high school who were putting together a band didn't need another guitarist so I picked up bass. I think I took lessons for about a month; it was required in my school's curriculum.

What is your favorite thing to do in the whole wide world
?
I love playing music live, touring, partying in different cities, meeting new fans, and listening to music when no one else is around or when I'm not busy doing anything else. Also I like website design, audio engineering, and networking.

What is your biggest challenge when it comes to running your business?

Keeping accurate financial records, making sure everyone in the band wants the same thing or knows what the goal is, scheduling rehearsals, delegating various tasks to everyone, and driving long distances.

When you were a kid, what did you think you were going to be when you grew up?

I figured I'd become an engineer like my dad. I didn't want to be a musician, but I don't think I really knew what I wanted to do. I just didn't wanna be poor or homeless or living with my parents.

In what way has your community impacted your development as a musician?
Well since I moved to Austin TX, I have never "not" been in a band. Sometimes I was in two or three bands at the same time and I got to see so many good shows. Solid bassists are hard to come by around here. Also, most of my friends here play music, and I also studied recording engineering here and I've worked a few soundguy or runner gigs.

What other artists out there do you love?
Fishbone, Rancid, Streetlight Manifesto, STS9, MC Chris, Crystal Method, SOJA, Flatliners, Futurerock, Gorillaz, just to name a few

What does your future hold?

bigger and better things, unless we split up which is not impossible, but we'd prefer to just take things at our own pace, no pressure or obligations from record labels, it may be awhile before we do a national tour again, but we'll always have our occasional hometown show and nearby regional shows every couple months, and we'll make the trip out to do a big festival from time to time. Everyone is comfortable now doing their own thing while we're home so to get everyone together on something is kind of a complex chore, so we try to plan way ahead for any of our performances or trips out of town.

It's that time again to clear my desktop of stuff I just couldn't do justice to this week:
Indofin, 2X Broken
This trio hailing from Austin, TX play reggae and ska with just a hint of punk rock inspiration. The songs for the most part are low-key affairs, but the occasional riff threatens to knock you on your ass.
There's also a Canadian connection as one of the band members is a Calgary native.

"2x Broken" by Indofin (Reggae Artist from Austin, TX)

The musical group, Indofin, releases their second album, "2X Broken," and will delight the audience with their fresh musical approach to the basis of Reggae/Rock splashed with Punk and Ska. The entire CD is comprised of captivating songs that are set to an enticing blend of syncopated beats and sharp vocals. "Bluelight" is a bouncy tune with a strong and assertive bass line that complements the melodic vocals. Another song, "Fingerfight," is bright and lively as the edgy guitar adds punch to the mix. Taking a more soulful turn, "Breezy One," is slightly laid back as the vocals sing with expressive precision. Rounding off the album, the title track, "2X Broken," is a hue of energy as the drums roll off in cut time while the vocals and guitar merge with forceful power. If you're a fan of the group Sublime and like vibrant and energetic songs, then you will definitely want to hear the outstanding songs on the album, "2X Broken."

End of Summer News Update, CD Release Party Pics/Vids, Wakarusa Live Indofin now available! http://mog.com/alberth1916/blog/2204299

Hey everyone, it's about time for a new update. First off, we'd like to thank everyone from all over the world that became our fan on Facebook last month or started following on twitter. We broke 5000 followers and over 2000 facebook fans. The CD Release parties were a blast for us, thanks to everyone who came out, all the bands that played, and the venues/sponsors who participated(InSITE, NORML, Encore, Fox7News, KEYE Austin, HardPressed Publicity, ArielCyberPR, Jacks, & River City Productions) And a special thanks to Joi Faltesek and Zappy Springs Photography for taking some killer photos(below) and also our streetteamer Travis Warren for shooting the great video footage in SATX. We've started working on some new material but we should definitely have some more shows coming your way in the near future. Again, be sure to sign our mailing list to be kept in the loop about everything.

by ZappySpringsPhotography

Our new record 2x Broken is now available basically everywhere online, and if you live in Austin you should go pick one up at Waterloo, Cheapos, or Antones. The album is currently on sale at CD Baby $7.99 for the CD and $5.99 for the album download. You can also get the CD at our online merchstore at www.rockthreads.com/indofin and get a free autographed poster while supplies last. Besides that we are giving away a free download of a different song off the new album each month exclusively on our Bandcamp site, so if you're the patient type, you would eventually have the whole album in 12 months and you would have gotten it all for free. The free download for this month is Honey and we will gladly take anyone's suggestions as to which song to post next. The album in digital form is also available at iTunes, Amazon, Emusic, Limewire, Digstation, Bandcamp, and several others. If you already got your copy, we'd love to know what you think of it good or bad, so please post a review at either CDBaby, iTunes, Amazon, or just on your personal blog. I believe you can actually listen to the whole album on the widget below, so you don't even have to buy it to write a review, and you don't have to buy it until you've heard it all and know you wanna buy it.

Also, we haven't listed it anywhere yet, but the entire live set from our trip to Wakarusa Festival 2010 earlier this summer is now available for anyone who wants it on CD, Zip download, USB Wristband, & video DVD, only at www.coolmusicnetwork.com , we promise you will not be disappointed. This gig features our buddies Ryan Winters and Jason Moore from the Dallas reggaedub band Champa filling in on drums and additional guitar/vocals respectively. Definitely something you won't get to see at every show of ours and we even play a couple songs that you will probably never see Indofin play. We should have some video clips posted up at the website and the Ning fan network pretty soon.

So what lies ahead in August? This Sunday August 8, we're bbq-ing over at TJ's and at 6-7 Eastern Standard Time, we'll be interviewed over the phone Live on the Reggae Link BlogTalkRadio Podcast, they will be featuring our music throughout the show and guests will be able to call in and comment or ask questions. The link to go listen to the show is : http://www.blogtalkradio.com/reggae-link and the show is every sunday at 6pm Eastern if you wanted to start listening regularly. The day right after that, Monday August 9 is the day the Virgin Mobile Freefest Contest begins. This is the new contest we happen to be involved in right now, and again just like the ones before, we need all our friends and fans to represent at the online polls and to cast their votes in support of Indofin, and you will be able to get another free download from us during the voting process. If we win this one, we'll get some travelling money to play in Washington DC in September alongside MIA, Thievery Corp., LCD Soundsystem, and too many more to list.. We will have more details for you very soon.

Also, later in August on Tues. Aug. 31 @ 10pm, there will be a broadcast of a prerecorded interview I did over the phone a couple weeks ago at w/ QsHouse, just go to www.QsHouse.com to tune in live or just wait till later when the podcast will be available on iTunes.

Well, this has to be the longest newsletter I've ever written, so I really hope you all got through the whole thing. If anything new comes up, I'll will definitely let you all know first. In the meantime, just keep buying music (not just ours), support local and independent artists, and keep attending shows. By the way, I think i'll start including in these news updates a couple cool bands I recently saw or recently discovered. The bands that come to my mind at the moment are Natural Incense, Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, and Bluetech. Also the Streetlight Manifesto show I went to at Emos in Austin was absolutely SICK!

With that said, I'm signing off, you all keep spreading the love, peace and unity for all, and stay tuned for more shows and music.!

2x Broken
Nonprofit Boozer

Fresh from a trip to the Wakarusa Festival in Ozark, Arkansas, the guys in Indofin are gearing up for the release of their second full-length studio release 2x Broken. If you are a fan of the dirty-reggae-punk sound that Sublime's live shows were chock full of, you'll be a fan of this Austin three-piece.

The 12 tracks that make up this record combined come in at just over 30 minutes of what I would term as throwback reggae-punk music. Leading off with the distortion-driven "Honey," the album's sound is established early. The crawling reggae sound continues on such tracks as "Whatever," "Nonprofit," and "Riverside." And songs like "Blue Light," "Princess," and "Missing Me" operate at a nice reggae-jam speed.

The vocals of T.J. Huerta are decidedly imperfect, but it's very fitting for the tracks that comprise the album. The songs are full of regret and hearbreak. Apparently someone broke his heart good. But, the album is also a celebration of coming out the other side, in personal relationships and as a band. I think "Sunshine" is the key track to prove this point.

My favorite track on 2x Broken is a track called "Fingerfight." The two minute jam is led by the crisp guitarwork of Huerta. The bass-line of Albert Huang keeps the song flowing while the percussion of Donny Mann brings it all together.

"Enough with all this posturing, fingerfighting fist a cuffs I got myself an ex-girlfriend / enough with all the apologizing, If you don't so I'm probably gonna do the same / I'm feeling like a bird in a cage when you come by to say hi you take this pain away / I pray, and I pray."

The album ends with "2x Broken" that begins as a classic country song before it leads into a punk rock jam that would make the Dropkick Murphys proud.

If you've been through a rough break-up this album may serve as therapy, and as I stated at the beginning of this review if you are/were a Sublime fan, you'll ikely find yourself at home with Indofin.

They are releasing 2x Broken on July 13, and will have a hometown release party at an INsite Night on Friday July 16 at Encore (611 Red River) with The Buzzkillers, Under The Gun and Root Dimension. If you're an early bird, they will be on your television between 7-9a playing Fox 7's Good Day Austin on July 16 as well.

You can pick up the album at the show, or if you can't make it download it on Amazon.com, iTunes. or order it via their website - http://indofinmusic.com/

The Story of Indofin & Upcoming New Album"2X Broken" http://www.indofinmusic.com Blog entry by albsure

Indofin, the veteran Austin TX reggaeskapunkrockers who have been playing together as a band for nearly a decade, has announced that they will be releasing their second full length album titled, Two Times Broken, in July of 2010.
Some will remember Indofin's selftitled debut release back in May of 2005. Shortly following this release, the band would independently book and go on five separate tours in different regions around the country, just about everywhere from CA to FL. When they were home from tour, this close-knit hardworking group of friends would log hundreds of miles in TX and Louisiana on short weekend trips regionally.

"Back then, the band had five members, sounded like Sublime, and you never really knew what to expect but if you were there you would remember it, even though we might not."

Over the last five years, various members had different priorities as well as personal issues/problems and it seemed like the end was near. But Indofin just late last year decided to stick with it and they kept the band together with just guitar/vocals, bass, and drums.

"We just had too much great music that we hadn't recorded yet, and we really didn't have it in us to start a whole new band from scratch. We're all in our thirties!" said bassist Albert Huang.

The band also recently released a live album recording digitally online just last month to benefit the Haiti Relief Effort and they played some unofficial showcases during SXSW as well as some memorable San Antonio performances. The live recording was recorded at Ruta Maya in Austin on Jan. 15 2010 an INSITE sponsored event, and according to the band members, it is a well balanced mix of old favorites from the first album as well as new tunes from the upcoming record, most of which the band had never performed live before.
The band recorded "Two Times Broken" with local gold record producer Ben Blank, who has worked with a diverse range of renowned local/national musicians including Bob Schneider, Alejandro Escovedo, Tribal Nation, Killer Bees, and Trent Reznor. The band spent the months of Nov. 2009 - Mar. 2010 recording at Blank's home studio in West Austin.  Ben also had done the mastering on the live album.

"The first album was definitely rushed, we hadn't planned everything out and that ended up biting us in the ass. We really wanted to do it right on this album, and spend the proper amount of time to create a really great, perhaps timeless record. And Ben's oldschool and very experienced in the analog recording process and thats something new for us."   -Albert

Indofin plans to release the new record this summer and the band will be playing next at an Austin Reggaefest afterparty downtown at Headhunters on Red River on Sat. April 17, they'll be joined by tour buddies BPM(rootsreggae from Montgomery Alabama), as well as local bands funkjamband Evoleno, Space Donkey(Indofin's former lead guitarist Eric Tussing's band), and rockrap group Done Deal. To hear some exclusive new tracks from Two Times Broken, please visit the official band website at www.indofinmusic.com.

It's looking like you can expect our album release to be in May of 2010, but we'll probably have advanced copies available by the time SXSW rolls around.  We'll be playing at the reggae fest at Ruta Maya on March 19-20 that week, we'll have the scheduled posted when it gets closer to the date.  Next shows are in San Antonio, first Sat. Feb. 6 with The Supervillains @ Jack's Patio Bar, and next is Sat. Mar. 13 @ Tonic Bar w/RiverCity AllStars.  It's been a long time since we've played in SA and we're definitely pretty excited.

A recent review of our 2005 debut http://swiftreviews.blogspot.com/2009/11/review-indofin-self-titled.html

Review:  Indofin - Self Titled by  JB Swift

Austin, TX indie rock/reggae band Indofin plundered their way into the Austin music scene in 2005 with their debut self-titled album, also referred to as The Orange Album. These guys go one step beyond parental advisory stickers giving listeners the first track of their album, Disclaimer. And quite appropriate the disclaimer is.

In the familiar style of Sublime, Indofin does a great job of producing songs that seem to come from extraordinary circumstances in life such as, but certainly not limited to, run-ins with law enforcement.

Combining reggae, hip-hop, rock, ska and a little punk styles, Indofin exhibits a unique style and perspective on popular music. Indofin’s songs are pretty complex in structure as well. On several tracks, the songs have tempo changes and instrumental sections that add depth to the album and show the band’s overall talent. They even throw some Cheech and Chong references and samples in with reggae rhythms and clever rhymes that will stick in your head all day.

This album is, no doubt, a feel good album. Upbeat songs about reckless actions can give a freeing feeling. Similar in overall vibe to Sublime’s 40oz to Freedom, this is a great album for the center of a party or just kicking back and letting your mind wander. These guys have got the attitude and skills to go far.

3.5 out of 5 stars
