GRAMMY® WINNER SHELBY LYNNE KICKS OFF
NORTH AMERICAN TOUR WITH APRIL 22nd SHOW
AT LOS ANGELES' ROXY THEATRE

Tickets For Tour Go On Sale This Weekend

Tears, Lies, And Alibis, Lynne's New Album, Set For April 20th Release

GRAMMY winner Shelby Lynne will launch an acoustic tour in support of her upcoming album, Tears, Lies, And Alibis, with an intimate show at The Roxy Theatre in West Hollywood, CA on April 22nd. U.K. artist Findlay Brown will open on all dates. Tickets for the U.S. tour will go on sale this weekend. (See below for a full itinerary.)

Tears, Lies, And Alibis, due out April 20th, marks the first release on Lynne's own newly founded label, EVERSO RECORDS, which will be distributed through Fontana, the award-winning independent distribution division of Universal Music Group. She'll be performing at the Fontana party at SXSW on March 18th. Coming on the heels of Just a Little Lovin', Lynne's critically acclaimed 2008 tribute to Dusty Springfield, Tears, Lies, And Alibis affirms her position as a visionary, iconoclastic artist who deftly weaves country, soul, rock, blues, pop and folk influences to forge her own unique style. Like Identity Crisis (2003) and Suit Yourself (2005), this sparse, unguarded collection was produced by Lynne, who evokes a live-in-the-studio vibe from a stellar group of musicians.

Drawing inspiration from the everyday, Lynne uses the familiar to render a complex internal landscape. From the exuberant 'Rains Came' and dreamy 'Something To Be Said,' her ode to the iconic Airstream trailer, to the restless, bluesy 'Old Dog' and poignant 'Alibi,' her evocative imagery brings to life the scarred yet determined group of survivors whose stories are told in Tears, Lies, And Alibis.

Last December, Lynne played a sold-out show at New York City's Carnegie Hall for public radio station WFUV, eliciting praise from The Wall Street Journal's 'Speakeasy' for her 'lean, elegant arrangements' and the 'soulful' new song 'Alibi.' Upcoming tour dates are as follows:

The Greenwich Village neighborhood of New York City in the 1960 s was ground zero for a musical, political and social evolution-- McCarthy and the Red Scare era was over, the Vietnam War was simmering and poised to explode, and the civil rights movement was gaining steam just as singers like Peter Seeger, Bob Dylan and Odetta were hanging out and composing fierce and fearless songs that reflected the social conscience of a generation. The neighborhood was symbolic of a shared inspiration with artists worldwide gravitating to the vibrant streets and clubs and as such helped change the course of popular music.

Says Susan Rotolo author of the recent bestseller 'A Freewheelin Time: A Memoir of Greenwich Village in the Sixties' and writer of THE VILLAGE liner notes: 'The performers from that time, and the songs they wrote, made a notable contribution not only to the legend of Greenwich Village but also to music in general. No one who is young, making music and hanging out, thinks in historical terms, but the passage of time allows for such a perspective. Cultural history was made.'

With THE VILLAGE, modern day artists look back and pay tribute to the artists and songs that helped nurture and shape them as successful musicians in their own right. Shelby Lynne gives a musical shout out to Dylan with her version of 'Don t Think Twice, It s Alright,' Cowboy Junkies perform their heartbreaking version of Tim Buckley s 'Once I Was' and Bruce Hornsby checks in with a stunning version of The Lovin Spoonful s 'Darlin Be Home Soon.' THE VILLAGE also features performances by Rickie Lee Jones, Lucinda Williams, Rachael Yamagata, Amos Lee, Sixpence None the Richer, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Rocco DeLuca, John Oates, The Duhks, and Los Lobos.]]>

Shelby Lynne teases, pleases with sultry show at Hoover's Library Theatre http://blog.al.com/mcolurso/2009/09/shelby_lynne_saturday_night_at.html

By mcolurso

Shelby Lynne, Saturday night at The Library Theatre in Hoover, Alabama. Review rating: Four out of five stars.

You can't watch Shelby Lynne perform without noticing: That Alabama gal is a handful.

Shelby Lynne, during a Mountain Stage performance for National Public Radio.
Lynne, who grew up in Frankville, comes across as rebellious, sexy, tough, prickly, charismatic. And cool, highly cool.

Such things help to make the singer-songwriter, 40, a mesmerizing entertainer. When Lynne's on stage, it's hard to take your eyes off her -- who knows what she might do or say next? -- and her vocal talent is equally compelling.

Soul, pop, folk, blues, country: Lynne can handle it all.

Her Saturday concert at The Library Theatre in Hoover (the second of two sold-out dates) was a marvel of sultry singing, stellar songcraft and powerful playing.

The set list pulled from several discs released during Lynne's 20-year career, including the songs "Where I'm From," "Life is Bad," "I'm Alive," "Iced Tea" and "Johnny Met June."

With her dusky alto, Lynne put an emotional stamp on two Dusty Springfield covers, "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me" (passionate) and "Breakfast in Bed" (slyly erotic). Then she let her twang take over, digging a down-home groove on Tony Joe White's "Poke Salad Annie."

As Lynne pointed out, these choices deliberately ignored her early years in Nashville's star-making machine, focusing instead on her more personal, idiosyncratic solo work.

She also offered a new song, the wryly tender "Like a Fool," set for inclusion on her next album. (Lynne previewed it on television in August, during an episode of the Lifetime series "Army Wives.")

For those who might care what Lynne was wearing during this 8 p.m. concert, let's call her ensemble dominatrix chic: neck-to-toe black, with skinny leather pants, a sleeveless top with a plunging neckline and tight, shiny boots with ultra-pointed tips and stiletto heels.

Although a bit daring for the respectable, white-haired listeners at the Hoover Library, Lynne got away with it. In fact, she teased the audience a bit, tossing out remarks about church crowds, prostitutes and whisky drinking.

Some artists are born to be frontwomen; Lynne obviously is one of those. But her gift for capturing viewers' attention is balanced by extremely good taste in band members. Lynne's backing trio on Saturday -- guitarist John Jackson, bassist Brian Harrison and drummer Rick Reed -- was first-rate.

Jackson, in particular, displayed amazing versatility and jaw-dropping prowess, just as he's done in previous appearances here with Lynne and Lucinda Williams.

Complaints? Only one: Lynne's performance lasted barely 75 minutes, including the encore. This seemed a mite skimpy, especially in her home state, and left at least one audience member wanting more.

Grammy-winning recording artist, Shelby Lynne,

will appear in an August episode, playing a country music singer whom Roxy adored while growing up, but now is "down and out," Brigid Brannagh (Pamela) tells TVGuide.com. "Roxy ends up befriending her — and then she sings a little ditty at the Hump Bar, which is pretty cool."
