Join Neil and his group in celebrating the Summer Solstice with a very special musical event. This incredible trio stirs the soul with deep grooves, heavy funk and soaring, dreamy soundscapes in a truly original blend. Open your eyes and behold keyboardist Neil Alexander and his amazing ensemble NAIL focusing their considerable skills to honor guitar legend Jeff Beck. Jeff's style has always held fascination for the Hudson Valley based keyboardist well known for his ability to emulate the electric guitar. 'His range of sounds ' with just a guitar & amp ' staggers the imagination,' says Neil. Armed with skills established in his 10 years of experience in Pink Floyd tribute band The Machine and his current status as a member of the John McLaughlin tribute band Mahavishnu Project, Neil is confident they can pull off a 'guitarless' tribute ' to a guitarist. A 'tribute show' is new for NAIL whose shows are traditionally original music spiced with a few pieces by other artists. The evening will include songs from classic discs Blow by Blow, Wired, and Guitar Shop, as well as 'stylistically appropriate' tunes and some NAIL originals.

Neil Alexander and NAIL have no plans to be a full time tribute band. 'Our focus will always be on our original material.' Says Neil. 'We're just widening our scope & trying something new'. The performance will take place on Feb 27^th at The Wherehouse Restaurant in Newburgh, fast becoming a well-known haunt for great live music.

Neil Alexander & Nail presents their Annual Winter Solstice Celebration, at the Turning Point Restaurant on Thursday December 17th at 7:00 PM. Admission is $15.

The Winter Solstice was the most important date on the ancient calendar. Prehistoric monuments like Stonehenge and Newgrange in Ireland indicate the day with remarkable precision. Neil Alexander & Nail will honor the day with their special blend of red-hot jazz, burning grooves and soaring soundscapes. This will feature longtime drummer Nadav Zelniker and bass virtuoso James Cammack (Ahamd Jamal) on both electric & acoustic bass. We can also expect guest appearances by local musical luminaries (TBA). The Turning Point Restaurant, located at 468 Piermont Avenue in the tiny Hudson River town of Piermont NY, is a nationally famous venue well known for bringing World Class artists to an intimate local setting. The restaurant provides a diverse menu of wonderful food. There’s something for everyone.

Led by synth wizard Neil Alexander (the Machine, The Mahavishnu Project), the all instrumental Neil Alexander & NAIL brings together many different elements, broadening the landscape of Jazz and improvised music. With stylistic diversity and fierce musicianship, they skillfully blend modern and traditional forms with experimental concepts and hi tech electronic music, fusing it into an grooving, accessible sound that's mesmerizing. Featuring bassist Dan Asher and drummer Nadav Zelniker, NAIL brings audiences a unique celebration of life and music. Their performance roster includes The Blue Note in NYC; opening for the likes of John Scofield, and performing at many other festivals and clubs. They're currently touring to support their last CD "Tugging At The Infinite", featuring the smash hit "Everyman". And they perform both electric and acoustic shows, easily combining influences and showing off their remarkable versatility.

“Street Noise” Welcomed at the Newburgh Library on September 13th.

You wouldn’t think that a library would welcome noise but when it comes to “Street Noise” at the Newburgh Free Library well, that’s a different story.

“Street Noise” is an award winning pastel painting by Newburgh artist Clayton Buchanan that portrays Newburgh musician Neil Alexander performing in, where else, Newburgh!  “This painting epitomizes the vibrant, growing commitment to art and culture in Newburgh and the Hudson Valley” says Mark Delano who recently purchased the painting and has asked that it be placed on display at the library.

The setting for Street Noise is Neil Alexander’s performance at the Newburgh Waterfront in June of this year.  Clayton Buchanan, who is widely known for his pastel paintings, captured the scene and presented it for display at the Kent Art Association’s President’s Show in July.  Clayton said “I have been a fan of Neil Alexander, and his band ‘Nail’ for quite a while, and especially his emotional concentration when playing his music; that is what motivated this painting.”  The painting was an instant success at the Kent show and won the Solo Show Award and the Michael Abene Award for Jazz Theme according to Davia Kennedy Fink, Executive Director of the Kent Art Association.

Keyboardist Neil Alexander grew up close to the Hudson River and calls Newburgh his home.  Neil has been performing a wide variety of music for more than 30 years including a large repertoire of original compositions that he describes as “a blend of red hot jazz, burning funk grooves and soaring soundscapes.”  Neil has a genuine passion for music that is evidenced by his work with music in all forms and styles from Composer/Arranger and Production of Live Sound to Musical Theater, Modern Dance and Film.  Neil, with his band Nail, performs regularly throughout the region and quite frequently at the Newburgh Waterfront and library where his shows are always a hit.

On September 13^th Neil Alexander and Nail will perform a very special show at the library, “Hudson Champlain Quadricentennial: A 400 Year Musical Journey.”  The show, which is free and open to the public, will also feature an unveiling of “Street Noise” which will then go on display at the library.  The program starts at 2:00 pm at the Newburgh Free Library, 124 Grand Street, Newburgh, NY 12550.

Aug 4^th 2009- Newburgh resident Neil Alexander and his stellar Jazz-Fusion trio NAIL will bring a one of a kind performance to the Newburgh Free Library on September 13 at 2 pm. Entitled “A 400 Year Musical Journey”, the performance will feature Keyboardist/Composer Neil Alexander, drummer Nadav Snir-Zelniker and bassist Dan Asher with guest musicians violinist Zach Brock and woodwind master Premik Russel Tubbs. The ensemble will perform music from each century (1609, 1709, 1809), featurng composers such as Beethoven and Duke Ellington, and a group of selections from the 20^th Century. The show culminates with Neil’s forward-looking 21^st century original compositions, a hi-tech blend of Jazz, World, Funk and Electronica.

Free outdoor event celebrating the Hudson/Chapmlain Quadracentennial. a flotilla of boats will sail in to Newburgh Beacon Bay and will include replicas of the Half Moon and the 1700's Dutch Onrust, the Sloop Clearwater and the Woody Guthrie along with a plethora of other vessels. Musical performances will be held throughout the afternoon. We anticipate a large number of people, so come early!

A Jazzy Proclamation at Orange County Government Center
Bring your lunch and enjoy a free jazz concert on Wednesday, April 29 noon to 2 pm in the courtyard at the Orange county Government Center in Goshen.  County Executive Ed Diana will present Aquanetta Wright of Ferry Godmother Productions a proclamation for “Jazz Appreciation Month.”  Aquanetta states “Mr. Diana has traditionally been known as a strong supporter of the arts and I am honored to be able bring professional jazz to the county seat.”  Taking center stage and electrifying the audience will be the musical masters, Neil Alexander and Nail.  Joining them will be special guest performance by Gina Dee.  In the event of rain the concert will be relocated inside the government center.  The recognition and celebration are free and open to the public.  For sponsorship information or event details email fg@ferrygodmother.com or call 845 568-0198..
