This show is committed to creating the authentic a cappella doo-wop sound of the East Coast street corners from the late 50s and early 60s - no bands or recorded music. Simply put, this IS doo-wop a cappella at its best!

This style of music was originally created by the neighborhood kids, hanging out on the street corners, harmonizing with the only instruments that they could afford - their voices. Doo-wop was created without formal voice and music lessons. It was THEIR music - singing about what was important to THEM in the 1950s and early 1960s. It was, and still is, the music of young people and those who are young at heart.

For many young people, their only exposure to doo-wop has been public television's version with the ORIGINAL groups backed by large bands. That version creates the perception that it is for the older generations only. However, when they get to hear younger groups singing a cappella doo-wop the way it was meant to be performed, their perception changes. Currently, there seems to be a resurgence of this music among young people. Young or old, come on and "hang out on our street corner" for a fantastic performance.

The recent record-breaking PBS-TV music specials, "50 Years of Doo-Wop" were so well received that it created a new showcase and new audiences for veteran Doo-Wop artists, treating 50-something concertgoers to the songs they danced to at sock hops, while allowing younger audiences to discover that Doo-Wop is feel-good music no matter what your age. The lineup includes: The Contours with Sylvester Potts (“Do You Love Me,” “Shake Sherry” and “First I Look at the Purse”), The Spaniels featuring Willie C. Jackson (“Goodnight Sweetheart,” “Baby It’s You,” “Bells Ring Out,” “So Deep Within”), Kathy Young (“A Thousand Stars,” “Magic is the Night,” “Happy Birthday Blues”), The Vibrations (“Hang On Sloopy,” “The Watusi,” “Peanut Butter”), The Olympics (“Western Movies,” “Big Boy Pete,” “Dance by the Light of the Moon”), The Volumes (“I Love You,” “Gotta Give Her Love”), Paul & Paula (“Hey Paula,” “Young Lovers”), The Pentagons/Joe Jones (“To Be Loved”), The Royals (“The Shoop Shoop Song”), and the Blue Suede Orchestra (“Buzz, Buzz, Buzz”). This music is like a first love that no one ever forgets.

The Ultimate Doo-Wop Show showcases the best of the genre with a lineup that includes The Contours featuring Sylvester Potts (Do You Love Me [Now That I Can Dance], Shake Sherry), The Spaniels (Goodnight Sweetheart, Baby It’s You), and Kathy Young (A Thousand Stars, Honest I Do). Also performing are The Vibrations (Hang on Sloopy, The Watusi), The Olympics (Big Boy Pete, Western Movies), and The Volumes (I Love You). The Pop duo Paul & Paula (Young Lovers, Hey Paula), The Pentagons' Joe Jones (To Be Loved), The Royals, and The Blue Suede Orchestra (Harlem Nocturne) are also featured.

THE ROYALS are back! If you were at their last show yelling "MORE, MORE, MORE" at the end of the show, well there will be MORE - SATURDAY, AUGUST 28th at 8 PM.
Opening for THE ROYALS: "KING & DUKE" performing a tribute to the male vocal duos of the 50s and 60s.
