  Someone once paraded on a stage proclaiming “Big Ideas”…
Mysterious Ways
 has also been a series of “big ideas”.  With the original inception of MW in the spring of 2005, much has changed with MW continuously evolving: more authenticity, more U2 songs, more venues, more production – sound, lighting and video - and MORE FANS!  One of the few constants, however, was Buffalo Speedway.  Buffalo brought with him the raw energy of a serious rock guitarist, yet he took the time to understand the particular playing style of “The Edge”.  He also brought with him a sense of “the show”, suggesting the video backdrop early on, but more importantly bringing lighting; beginning with a single “garage clamp-type lamp” (pointed directly on him of course) and progressing to the monstrosity of strobes, laser mirrors, par cans, LED lights, and the ever present mirror ball.  With the wisdom and dry English humor, he helped navigate the band through some pretty stormy weather.

 

As time moves on, circumstances change.  When
Mysterious Ways
 announced it was going to tour more outside of Austin and Texas, Buffalo decided it was time to step down as “The Edge”.  Replacing someone who was the cornerstone of a successful band was not going to be an easy task.  Not to mention the loss of a good friend to the “real world”.  This was the equivalent of changing the foundation of a house for Buffalo was truly a cornerstone of MW.  Doable?  Yes.  But not without a lot of sadness and definitely not without a lot of effort

 

Enter Mark Jorgenson from the original bands Dynah and Beau Loy.  Mark started playing guitar when he was 6!  With 30 years of playing under his belt, Mark brings to
Mysterious Ways
 an extra sense of credibility with “The Edge” being one of his favorite guitarists.  He was even called “Edge Jr.” in one of his earlier bands!

 

With big shows immediately on the horizon, Mark took to the task of becoming “The Edge” in America’s U2 Tribute Band with heart.  With the help of MW’s Patrick “Bono” Fleming, Steve “Adam Clayton” O’Brien and Brian “Larry Mullin, Jr” Delauri, he was encouraged and guided through U2’s songs and style.  From the very start, Mark seemed to be channeling The Edge’s playing style, stage presence and wardrobe which raised the bar for everyone in MW.  Investing in his “dream rig”, Mark then tackled 35 songs in less than two months, learning all the Edge parts and figuring how to put the big sound of U2 into a four-piece rock and roll outfit.  Many thanks go to Buffalo Speedway as he donated his guitar tones to Mark to get him started, though listening to Mark’s own tones on “In God’s Country” you’d think The Edge himself has stepped on stage! 

 

In addition to the pressures of learning the library of songs, Mark had the additional challenge of keeping pace with the important stretch that Mysterious Ways was entering – playing Monterrey, Mexico – complete with the headaches/stress that come with international travel for a band – and then House Of Blues in Dallas – a huge gig for MW.  Not to mention the normal task of getting to know the others in
Mysterious Ways
, both on the road and on stage.  Within that time, though, he created a highlight to the new MW shows – the “Bono/Edge” duet - providing an intimate acoustic experience right in the middle of a rock and roll show that crowds have already embraced!  No wonder U2 does it!

 

The transformation is complete.  The bar has been raised as to what can and should be expected from a U2 tribute band.  MW fans have accepted Mark as the new “Edge” and
Mysterious Ways
 is back on track with a huge October schedule playing locally in Austin, as well as returning to Club 101 in El Paso and Little Rock, AR, this time at Sticky Fingerz Chicken Shack!  And there's even a new light show!  To quote U2: “Restart and reboot yourself”:  Mysterious Ways 2.0 - Even better than the fake thing!

 

Just in time for MW to give U2 a run for their money!!  Ha!!!  Yes, Bono, “big ideas”!!

Last night Mysterious Ways dedicated their show at Fado Irish Pub to Jen Craven.  She is one of the waitresses who works at Fado who has been in the hospital for over a month, and in ICU for over the past 2 weeks.  Originally thought to have meningitis or staph meningitis, she has strep pnumonia, but the infection caused a lot of fluid to build up around her heart and lungs.  It's going to take a long time for her to recover, but she seems to have stabilized.  You can read about her and her families saga at http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/jencraven.

So, regarding last night's show:  We - you - raised $900 for Jen!!!  Not too shabby for a last minute dedication/benefit!!  It was a packed house and you all rocked out and sent a HUGE amount of energy Jen's way - as well as helped her out finacially!

The members of Mysterious Ways got to meet Jen's mom and dad - in their custom made "Jen's Mom" and "Jen's Dad" t-shirts.  What a great couple.  They were very very thankful for having such an event, but I was just glad we were in a position to help.  MW has known Jen for a long time - she's family!!  We hope for her to stay steady and to recover full, however long it takes!!

Hello U2 Fans (and MW fans)!!  

It's only 11 days until the start of U2's "U2 360 Tour" - a ground breaking stadium tour featuring an "in-the-round" stage and 360 degree video screen that will take U2 through the US in Sept. and Oct.

Mysterious Ways is planning something just a groundbreaking - touring the US by preceding U2 up to a week as they tour the country.  Plus playing some areas they aren't playing!  50 days - 25 dates!!   Mysterious Ways have been honing their show in the Texas region for the past four years, with the inclusion of their own specialized lighting and giant video screen, and it's time to make a jump to National!!  

MW's tour, dubbed "MW US 180 Tour" will feature a three screen 180 degree type video set-up behind the band, their specialized lighting to augment existing venue lighting and all the very BEST U2!!

This is quite an endeavor, one that when I proposed the idea to the rest of MW, I thought would fall into place.  We got a late jump on it and I now realize that Mysterious Ways needs YOUR help!!  We need to get the word out that Mysterious Ways is the BEST U2 SHOW and we're coming to play for you and the millions of U2 fans who are going to miss out on seeing U2 because U2 is only playing 14 cities in the US - and they are all selling out fast!
