One of our favorite venues in the county which also happens to be our ‘home’ venue in Opelika, AL is closing it’s doors as Jan 1, 2012.  Its hard to believe we have been playing there for 10 years! We’ll never forget the first time we walked in Eighth & Rail and how we were blown away.  It’s a pretty typical reaction that most musicians and patrons have when they experience Eighth & Rail for the first time.  We are truly loosing a great venue.

No better place to wake up to the first day of Fall than in NYC. Sitting here in the hotel lobby just 2 blocks from the UN, which is session.  There are secret service dudes everywhere from all different countries hanging in every corner of the lobby.  Seems like every 10 minutes there is a convoy heading down 42nd escorted by NYPD.  I find that world really fascinating.

Now that I thinking about it. Yesterday when we were boarding the plane in ATL there were 2 security type agents at the bottom of the jetway just monitoring or I’d like to say, profiling everyone getting on the plane. Then when we got on the plane, we were immediately met by 2 more security type agents.  We are thinking “wonder whats going on, is this typical nowadays for every flight going into LGA?”  We thought, well one thing is for sure this plane is very secure. We found our seats and didn’t think much more of it.  Until these 2 agents, along with President Carter, started making their way down the isle of the plane. President Carter went through the cabin and shook everyone’s hand. He said he to me, “I like your hat”.

After the flight I’m hanging outside by baggage claim, (which I won’t get into how DELTA took 3 flights to get our DJEMBE drum to us, but it’s true) and this dude with a camera walks up to me and says “hey were you on the flight from ATL which President Carter was on” ME: yes, DUDE: “I’m with TMZ, would you mind if I ask you a few questions about that on camera. ME: sure!  So look for it tonight, if it made the cut, it will air on tonights TMZ piece.

We left Auburn, AL at 5:45am for a 3:30 meeting at Billboard Magazine. We filmed a “Chart Beat” Piece with the guys that run the Charts on Billboard Magazine that you read every week….Gary & Alex, you guys rock!  We filmed our piece in the Billboard library, every issue ever printed is in that room, including the very first issue which, does anyone know when the first issue of Billboard came out? I didn’t either, but thanks to Alex, who gave us a very informative tour of the office and knows a lot about the history of Billboard, the first issue came out in 1894!

We chatted with the guys and played 4 songs for them. We think the segment will be up on Billboard.com in a week or two.

Day Three of the Callaway Gardens Harvest Moon Festival boasts an incredible lineup of musicians. The main stage will host multi-platinum recording artists the Gin Blossoms, musical legends Big Head Todd and the Monsters and John Hiatt, the hot singer-songwriter Mat Kearney, and Collective Soul’s Ed Roland and his new outfit, the Sweet Tea Project. The Festival Tent stage will feature all the biggest college football action on big screens, and even more musical talent, headlined by platinum selling singer-songwriter Shawn Mullins and another late-night spinning session from DJ Moneyshot.

The whole weekend is family friendly, and Saturday will be especially so, with great activities for children like the Atlanta Center for Puppetry Arts “Puppet Factory,” as well as fun and games at the world’s largest man-made inland beach. The Farmers Market will be back in full swing and the day also features locally sourced foods, cooking and gardening demonstrations, and more!

Gates open at 11 a.m. and the music kicks off at 11:30, so bring some sunscreen and enjoy a full day!

This church is presenting us in concert to benefit and raise money for the Liver Transplant Foundation. All procceds go to this organization.

Martha's Trouble has donated this concert to the Red Cross. Congratulations to University RV & Resort for being the highest bidder! Looking forward to a wonderful evening.

Well, we had a great weekend of shows in NC & SC and now we are heading home. We had to leave the kids & pets at home with the Nanny, so things were much more quiet on the road. We missed them, but we had plenty of skype sessions to see those sweet faces. So we are making the late drive back from Greenville, SC to Auburn and at about 10:20pm we pull up to Starbucks. Thankfully they were open till 10:30pm…we made it just in time!! I order a latte (tall, upside down, 1 raw sugar latte is what it is these days) and Rob orders a coffee. The guy at the drive thru tells him they don’t have any coffee brewed and haven’t since 8pm because of the demand……why are you even open?? You sell coffee!!! Without the demand of coffee…..you don’t have any customers!! What in the world?? So funny! Anyway, we are both caffeinated and are due in at 11:47pm according to Garmin. I’m always surprised at how many cars are on the road late at night on a Sunday. Thanks to all the great fans that came out this weekend. It was a good one!!

So last tour we called it the ‘Chipotle’ tour cause we ate Chipotle like almost every day we were out. This time, we need to call it the ‘Rush to get there’ tour because it has been really a rush every night to get to where we are playing. From Auburn we went to Charleston, SC. Then on to Florida… Jacksonville and then St. Petersburg and now Pensacola. It’s been at least at 5 hour drive each day, which we are now starting to feel. Yesterday should have been a 4 hour drive, but it took us 6 thanks to the 4 accidents on Hwy 4 from St. Augustine to St. Pete. So we have the longest drive today, which will be almost 8 hours. We are with the kids, nanny and animals. Right now we are listening to MVY radio on our iPhone app and they are streaming live the Newport Folk Festival right now. So cool!! Oh, and it’s been SO hot. Why yes, it is the end of July and we are in Florida!!?? What were we thinking! The heat might be getting to Wilson…he keeps talking back to the Garmin. “where are you taking us Garmie??” “I don’t think so Garmie!!” Emery keeps saying “who’s Garmie??” and Megan is in-between the kids saying, “guys, don’t yell, you’re gonna give Megan a headache!” haha…we’ve been referred to as the ‘dog & pony show’ and that’s a tiny snapshot of why!! Lol. So funny!!!
