Louisville, KY (Palace Theatre)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We woke up with some A/C trouble in the Blaze and decided to get it fixed here in Asheville before we made the long drive...wouldn't want it to lead to a breakdown (which has NEVER happened!) *except for that one time in Minneapolis....but still.
The BLAZE has NEVER let us down!!! *except for that one time.
We sat in the waiting room FOREVER.
alt
Pat's friend, Pete, came to our rescue along with Don and Laurie. They picked us up and we all went to breakfast in town...I forget the restaurant, but it was super nice and we had fun walking around the city all day. Pete dropped us off back at the shop and we made our way to Louisville in the touched up Blaze....she's so refreshed now!
We made the drive to Louisville, KY and the Palace Theatre is a total work of art....
alt
alt
alt
alt
So are the vehicles that drive the streets of Kentucky...
alt
Our dear friend Raina made the drive all the way from Columbus, OH...thanks Raina!
We stopped by one of our favorite places, HEINE BROS, for some coffee and snacks...mmm
alt
K decied not to eat....he's trying to do his part.
alt
Instead, we just gave him one of these from the van...
alt
We picked up Christina some birthday gifts from Carmichael's and then headed back home to NYC....this was the last show of the tour!! We're sad, but also happy to see our friends again. Big thanks to Regina for taking us on tour and we'll be hitting the road again soon...just not with a super talented, hot, red-head this time. (instead, we'll just have K)
bye! Thanks to everyone we met along the way! We'll miss the open skies....(but not that Arby's)
alt
Love,
Asheville, NC (Thomas Wolfe Auditorium)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

We've heard great things about Asheville, NC for years and were excited to FINALLY be playing here...our friends Laurie and Don Koster drove out from Charlotte and we had a great time with them after the show.

These are pics of Zac's guitar and K's pedals....not Don and Laurie. (unfortunately)
alt
alt
We walked around a bit and found some great vintage and book stores...I picked up these fresh kicks!
alt
We also found toilet paper designed SPECIFICALLY for our amazing bass player, Pat.
alt
The show was a lot of fun and we can't wait to come back...hopefully we can hang a bit more with the locals next time!

Nashville, TN (The Ryman)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We were excited to play The Ryman tonight cuz it's super famous AND a bunch of our friends are coming....Kyle Andrews, all the Heypenny guys (and their lovely ladies), Lisa Brown, and, of course, our muffin man Beau from Computer Vs. Banjo.
alt
Funny little story about this place...Pat's legendary cousin, Dennis Valentino, was driving across the country, got wasted, and was caught breaking into The Ryman running aimlessly around the stage. Within 24 hours, he climbed the fence at Graceland and started running towards the house. He was promptly tackled by 2 police officers on the lawn and thrown in jail. You're our hero Cuz!
The show was a lot of fun and we had a great time hanging out with everyone in the dressing room afterwards. Thanks for coming guys!
Nashville, TN (The Basement)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We somehow picked up a passenger in the Blaze by the name of "Bug" who rode with us for 3 straight days. It was hilarious. Here he is....
alt
We're not sure when or how he got out, but he's missed and we got a little nervous cuz it's hunting season....Hope yer doin alright Bug!
alt
Our memory is a little fuzzy at this point, but I think we played a show at The Basement on our night off. The Heypenny guys came out and so did some really cool new faces.
alt
At one point a couple of girls came by with puppies trying to find homes for them. Apparently someone had tricked the girls earlier that night by allowing them to hold the dogs and then running off. Needless to say, the Blaze was not a safe home for these pups, but they were very cute so I'm sure it wasn't hard finding somebody.

We slept at our buddy Beau's house and did some Pilates in the morning with Denise Austin.

Kirksville, MO (Truman State University)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We left Denton and started our drive to Kirksville....the native architecture of Missouri is slightly less "regal" than other parts of the country...
alt
It was a long drive and we ran out of water bottles...
alt
Zac and Pat picked up a little something to help pass the time....
alt
When we arrived, we met Courtney Hurd and her awesome Lady Crew. We also spotted this sign at a random gas station......
alt
ummmmm...hello??? Forgetting somebody??? (COMEon)
We played the show that night and headed back to our hotel for some PAAAAAAARTYYYY-ing.
Except that never really happened.
There was a weirdie pregnant lady working the desk who wouldn't let us in the pool OR play video games. The lobby was a complete ghost town...bar was closed.
BUT
...she totally didn't catch us playing the BIG CRANE around the corner!@!@!!!!! (sucker)
Pat set out to win me this Pink teddy bear in overalls named "Norbit." One try baby.
He is now a part of the band and travels with us everywhere. He's so pumped to be out of that glass cage and seeing the world!
alt
Norbit
Just a small town bear from Kirksville, MO....look at him. If only those fake watches and stuffed lobsters could see him now!
Day Off in Denton, TX
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

We had the day off and our friends McKenzie and Felicia came out to the Dallas show, so we decided to go visit them in Denton for the night. That means K is riding with us in the van now...yay! K's back! Let the good times roll....

alt
good to have ya back buddy.

We rolled into town and hit up Dan's Silverleaf....that mysterious dark face in the middle is McKenzie of Midlake.
alt
We met some of the local characters, heard some stories of David Bazan taking a shit, and then went back to McKenzie and Felicia's house. Their place is really really slick. McKenzie hung up pictures of some amazing musicians (including a few GIANT posters of himself) and their dogs were sweet as pie.

In the morning, we walked around Denton to check out some local "hotspots."

alt
alt
alt
Of course we had to eat breakfast at Ruby's....
alt
We think this picture of Felicia with the Old Court House should be Denton's new postcard, but they're not budging from that stupid City Hall one...
alt
I mean it's an "okay" picture, but there's no hot girl in it! I mean COMEon people...basic marketing...get a clue.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We woke up and said goodbye to the Colwell's...we'd be back in March for SXSW, but Zac still cried....just a little...in his pants.
We played the Nokia Theatre in Dallas, TX and forgot to take pictures, BUT we met a bunch of nice people including this talented guy named Rolando who designed a poster for our NYC show....if anyone needs a designer, hit him up!
Austin, TX (Stubb's)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good Morning. We're about to play our favorite show of the whole tour. And we don't even know it yet.

The day started out right when I got a text message from Mike McCarthy (Spoon) saying he's coming to the show and interested in working on our next record. (we felt like school girls at the valentine's day dance)
alt
We were playing a sold out show in Zac's hometown at Stubb's and totally blown away by this crowd. They were AMAZING!

alt
alt
Zac's family was in the balcony being all sorts of proud, while MY family was being all sorts of loud...nice pipes Michelle!
alt
Michelle, Alisha, David, and Chris

Michelle took some photos and you can see more of her stuff HERE.
alt
alt
The music inspired some to kiss...
alt
While the beer inspired others to barf...
alt
It was good to see Marcus again with his lady Crystal...
alt
Billy and Casey made it too!

Houston, TX @ The Verizon Wireless Theatre
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We woke up to Mr. Colwell's famous potatoes and ate breakfast in the backyard like some fancy people do sometimes...
alt
Mr. Colwell explained the derivation of each artifact Mrs. Colwell had collected and placed outside....3 hours later, we had covered them all. Lots of culture in that yard! Nice work Carolyn :)
We had a show in Houston, TX that night so we grabbed our things and drove to the venue...on the way, Zac cut his finger :( What are we gonna DO?!??! HE"S GONNA DIE OUT HERE!!!!!
Wait, wait...no he's not! Our dear friend Nurse Peggy had given us a First Aid Kit back in Florida...it's been living under the BLaze passenger seat....he's gonna be OK!
alt
You saved his guitar career Peggy.
alt
The Verizon Wireless Theatre is a really big place that sounded kinda weird. The space itself didn't have any charm so it's a good thing the PEOPLE at this show had plenty to go around....We were especially happy to see our friends Cassandra and Nydia there! Thanks for coming girls :)
alt
alt
(we don't know Nydia's friend on the right,
but I'm sure she's plenty charming too)
After the show, we went back to Zac's parent's house so we could wake up bright and early in our favorite city, AUSTIN!
DAY OFF in Austin, TX
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

alt
Damn Right!

We had the day of so Zac high-tailed our asses out of the hotel and into Austin faster than you could shake a stick....at...or something like that. Pat and I hopped out at the Post Office to mail a broken cymbal back to Zildjan and Zac and K went to Chez Colwell's for some peanut butter sandwiches.

Pat had some high school friends to meet up with and I had plans with so we decided to join forces and start the night a little early on 6th street. Pat's friend Marcus came by to join us for a spell...
altNext we headed out to the "Matt's El Rancho on Lamar" for a good old fashioned Caesar Rodney Reunion...(Go Riders!)
Here's the ex field hockey star Krista with Patrick...
altAnd here she is with her husband Ricky....(who's last name also happens to be Patrick)
altThat's me and Carrie who's recipe for "Hippie Tea" is famous all over Austin... (with her friends and AT LEAST 3 people who never even met her)
altPlease keep in mind that any expressions you see (or bad jokes you hear) are the result of Pat and I drinking since 3 in the afternoon.

We had so much fun with all our new friends...No one could believe that we were all basically strangers meeting for the first time, (with the exception of Krista and Pat who once sat next to each other on "Pizza Day.")
altWe also felt kinda bad cuz it was only about 7 o'clock and we were trashed. (no judgements...you guys are the best) Hope we see you again soon!

After dinner, Carrie took us to BIRD's BARBERSHOP in her grandfather's car cuz her wheels broke down the other day :(

Pat sat shotgun while I just rolled around in the back...
altJessica let us in for an after hours hang with hot records and cold beer...
altMeanwhile back on the ranch, K and Zac were sipping fine wine and eating artisan cheese (whiz) with Alice and Chet...
alt
Goodnight Austin...we're happy to be back!

Travel Day (Denver, CO to Houston, TX)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The drive started out pretty confusing...mostly trying to recall the catastrophic events from the previous night (sorry Scott!). We had plenty of wind turbines and desert landscapes to relax our fretted nerves....
alt
alt
The Pastures of Colorado a rich in history...here's a detailed account.
We made a pit stop for some Gas and Cheeze-Its in the most metropolitan of cities we could find:
alt
The management was extremely articulate and well-spoken.
alt
We drove as far and long as we could before finally stopping at our hotel. NO more Red Roofs!
alt
We're all sorts of high class now....
alt
...we took fancy showers and watched Robot Chicken on a giant TV.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The three of us cuddled up in his bed like Huey, Dewey, and Louie...
alt
alt

We woke up around noon and headed over to the venue....the show was a lot of fun and we got to see Zimmer's cousin and Pat's buddy "Schimmy!"
alt
alt
alt
It's Jupiter One tradition to bring the frisky chics backstage after a show....my buddy Marshall's Mom was the lucky lady that night....
alt
Mrs. Gilkes!!!

We went back to Scott's house for "after hours" where he let me and Pat drive his super, bad-ass, red, sporty-sportster sport car. The next morning we awoke to this guy...
alt
...and some breakfast burritos delivered to us by the man himself. After eating our way back into consciousness we hit the road for Houston, TX.

Salt Lake City, UT (@ In The Venue)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We woke up fully refreshed from the fancy-pants treatment of the hotel and headed to the club for load-in. We arrived to an amazing lunch spread and my new pals Greg and Keith had my 2nd drum set all lined up and ready to hit. Me and K did a long soundcheck/rehearsal with Regina, then set up Jupiter One town. We didn't know what to expect in Utah (our first time playing here), but I have to say the crowd in Salt Lake City was killing...we had an amazing show. Unfortunately, we forgot to take pics, but we met A LOT of real nice folks and look forward to coming back.
K and I played with Regina next and everything went smoothly....We were just super psyched to be eating all this good food (now that half the band is Regina's)....hooray for nutrition and stuff!
Our show tomorrow night is in Denver, CO so we had to drive through the night. (when I say "we" it should be noted that it REALLY means "Bandit and The Cat." Pat and Zac respectively.) K rides the fancy tour bus cuz he's a big lazy puss-puss who doesn't respect the SilverBlaze anymore...whatever!
As you know, my primary function during these long drives is Mayor of Screen Town. I managed to pick up this handy device at a gas station to maximize Night-Screening'
alt
The drive through the mountains was incredible....
alt
alt
The only thing MORE incredible than the scenery, was the police officer who stopped Pat for doing about 40 mph over the speed limit. The guy was SO psyched to pull over a rock band from New York that he just hung out asking questions about music, traveling, and girls and stuff. We gave him a copy of our album and he sent us on our merry way with a wave and smile. HILARIOUS! It took me and Pat about 2 hours to believe it wasn't a dream. Zac was sleeping in the backseat through all of this...
alt
As the sun came up, we just stared at the universe with a smile....
alt
alt
alt
alt
We arrived to the city of Denver and headed straight to Pat's friend Scott's house. This guy is THE all-time bro of bros hailing from Mount Brolympus. He woke up at 6am to let us sleep in his bed while he headed over to his friend's house to finish sleeping. He also had his fridge pre-stocked with 100 PBR cans in anticipation of our arrival. What a fucking hero! This is Scott....
Blaze to Utah
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

There's a searchlight fixed to the midnight sky...it's beaming a symbol of the Blaze and we MUST get to Salt Lake City in 24 hours.
alt

Regina, Dan, and K will be waiting there to run through the songs, cuz we have NO time to fuck around before the show at "In The Venue."

Here's where the teamwork of Jupiter One really shined. Allow me to break it down:

Seattle- we get the call. I need to learn all Regina's songs in 24 hours. Zac took the wheel and started for Utah.

Pat (the Berklee Audio Engineering Grad and the only man besides Zac and K who knows I'm way too technologically inept to do this) takes a huuuuugely big file of Regina's show in Massachusetts and cuts it up into bits and pieces. He worked through the night, while I got some shut-eye... I awoke to find, what laymen call, "tracks" on the computer.
alt
At this point, Pat sleeps and Zac (the fearless pilot) still drives...
alt
alt
Meanwhile, I take the tracks from Cecil and upload them onto my iPod. This is where I spend the next 15 hours listening to her music and trying to visualize how I'd play it. There will be no drums in sight until I play this music with her for the first time in Utah...
alt
I had headphones on, writing out drum parts while we made our way across Washington and Oregon.
alt
alt
alt
We made maybe one or two stops the whole way...
alt
Awake from his sleep, Pat now relieves the colonel....
alt
...and continues driving.
alt
alt
alt
alt
Zac's turn to sleep after a long shift of keeping her steady.....I'm still learning the music.
alt
Basically, Pat and Zac killed themselves driving on little sleep, little food, and NO alcohol. It was only fair that they be provided with a super deluxe hotel room....
alt
We made it to the rehearsal with time to spare...."Bandit and the Cat" did it again! Heroes amongst men....they delivered me safely and hit the streets hard to celebrate.

I was back at the studio playing with Regina, Dan, and K....
alt
The music all came together like fine wine spilling onto an expensive, short party dress. Along with K, I was now gonna be doing double duty for the rest of the tour, but the Boys of the Blaze would be laying our heads on bigger, softer pillows. (ahhhhhh...)

Seattle, WA (day off)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We woke up in a hotel...one of those super ones with an 8 on it. We planned on having a nice, cozy day off here in Seattle where we could get ourselves into some trouble. Turns out someone beat us to it...
alt
alt
alt
Really?... So early in the morning????
All the excitement worked up an appetite, so we headed to one of our favorite tour stops, The Skylark Cafe for some breaaaaaaakfast.
alt
lots of great photographs in there...
alt
With bellies full, we headed across town to Shorty's...
alt
alt
alt
alt
Me and Zac played some pinball, I watched him drink some beers, and Pat slept in the van. (too many potatooooooooooooooes)
alt
alt
alt
After 6 rounds of Love Boat Pinball, the smell of hot dogs was becoming too tempting so we decided to wake up old patty pants and head over to Cha Cha Lounge....
alt
alt
alt
We came in, got some drinks, and couldn't help but notice we might be the only guys in Seattle looking to get drunk at 4pm on a Monday.....
alt
hmmm...perhaps everyone's out on the patio???
alt
ah. okay. Pat- you text. Zac- you smoke. I'll just sit over here on this chair...
alt
We did wind up meeting a couple cool people, but then we got the call on my BatPhone. Matt has an emergency and needs to stay here in Seattle. Can I learn all of Regina Spektor's songs and finish out the tour?
Sure!
With the help of my fellow brothers, we can do anything. We had to cut our Seattle night short and get in the Blaze right away...next show is in Salt Lake City, UT and we have 48 hours.
alt
Someday we'll take back the night we left behind Seattle!!
alt
Sorry we couldn't participate...
Day Off in San Francisco
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

alt
alt
(photo by Danielle Honea)

We woke up in Casa De Sex Machine and got some breakfast....Zac was busy dropping off Mark at the airport (byyyye Mark...we miss you!) and we have a million of these flyers so we strategically placed them in the crevices of every known coffee shop in town.

alt
Eventually, the Blaze found it's way to mine and Panda's asses, so we bid Mike a fond farewell and took off for the "Glorious Golden Gate Bridge."

alt
alt
alt
alt

alt
(by the way, that's not rain on the windshield)

alt
alt
alt
This is one of our favorite tour stops and I recently did some research on its history.....

There's an old adage from Babylon circa 395 B.C. that states, and I paraphrase, "When a handsome panda hears the song of a sweet hummingbird,....

alt

alt

...the path to Paradise will present itself."

alt
Behold!

The omens had spoken...We hopped in the Blaze and headed straight towards our destiny on Paradise Drive!
alt
Through the tunnel...
alt
...we traveled to the other side with bated breath and joyous anticipation to find?????

alt
Oh. Guess we took a wrong turn onto Tamalpais :(

Well, it WAS Halloween night after all.

From here we just drove around till the spirit of the Kensington Wolves brought us safely to Portland, Oregon. But how shall we know when we've arrived??

alt
ah.

We were soooooooo pumped to spend Halloween night in Portland. We just KNEW the streets would be filled with creepy, crawly drunkards dressed like crazy people walking in sadness. Mainly cuz that's what Portland ALWAYS looks like to us, but somehow we thought tonight might even be MORE bereft of soundness.

Turns out we didn't make it to the city until 4am...all the bars were closed and we were sad. So we spent Halloween dressed like disappointed musicians drinking cheap vodka from the bottle in a smelly Red Roof hotel room.

trick or treat?

Go northwest, young men (not you, K), go northwest!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We woke up in a weirdie hotel (Duh.) and shook ourselves off. Time to hit the road to Oakland!
alt
alt
alt
Its a beautiful day out and the road is paved with Subway' and Outer Space Machines'
alt
Its a long straight drive from LA to Oakland. We're all a little battered from the Fancy Colors show last night. We've got the Blaze wound up tight and some Tom Petty on the box! Little did we know that ol' Tom played the Fox Theatre that we're about to play tonight. That is a boosh.
alt
We saw a bunch of our good friends and I took pictures of ALL of them. (Their good sides of course.) Here they are!
Aisha Maroon!
altRick!
altJesse Fritts!
altG.Koop!
altKenny Maroon!
alt
After that I charged them each $1 for a picture with me.
alt
alt
alt
Woohoo!!! 5 bucks!! I immediately spent that on a picture with one-a my best buds Ali. What a bargain!
alt
Then these guys paid me 5 bucks to take their picture! I couldn't be in it cuz then their moms would know they weren't at glee club or whatever... Thanks guys!
alt
We had a great time! K met Anthony Scott (fantastic animator for films such as "Coraline" and "The Corpse Bride") backstage and coerced him to work on a new video for us. (Stay posted for that... should be rad.)
alt
After the show we put K on the bus and went to try to catch Mike 'Sex Machine' Thompson's set with his band Tokyo Raid. We got there too late for the show, but just in time to help him load out. He was stoked!
alt
Dave helped load out the pretty girls.
alt
But he left all the drums and heavy stuff for Mike. Not so stoked...
altAnyhoo... we went back to Mike and Kelly's place and watched Mike drink a buncha booze and make funny faces.
alt
alt
alt
alt
alt
and Dave was all tuckered out.
Fancy Colors goes Bi-Coastal! (Silverlake Lounge)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I think Zac slept at his all-time buddy of all-time Fernando's house, and then picked us all up in the morning, including his favorite brother Mark. (yay!) We have the night off and Mark Colwell is here....Time to get Bryn out of the office!

alt
...and get to work on learning some Fancy Colors songs.

alt
mmmmmm...eh. Let's just stick him on saxophone...

(kidding of course!)

Bryn happens to be a Rennaisance man and full of raw talent. (But he DID play sax. I wasn't kidding about that part.) We've asked him to play with us at Silverlake Lounge...For those who don't know, "FANCY COLORS" is a side project featuring Zac on lead vocals/guitar, Panda on bass, Me on drums, and anyone else we feel like spending time with. Tonight that happens to be Bryn Mooser. He also has his own band called "PROUD MARY" y'all should check out.

We had to start the day off right....
alt
(Boosh!)

Next, we sat around a Mexican joint (Tacos, Tacos, Tacos, Tacos) all day. Literally, ALL fucking day. We met a pair of sisters who had recently done jail time and liked to go hiking. They stayed with us at the taco place for a few hours until they realized they were staying at a taco place for a few hours.

We watched the sunset, had another soft shell chorizo, and then drove to Silverlake Lounge. We were excited to be playing our very first West Coast Fancy Colors show and had an impressive guest list at the door. Read something like this:

Rosanna Arquette
Maria Bello
Danny DeVito
Nicholas Cage
Denise Richards
Brianne Davis
Mark Twain
& Bill Cosby

That gave us some clout at the club (as well as a few extra drink tickets) so we set up and watched while 8 or 9 people rushed the stage. It was MAYHEM!
alt
In all honesty, we DID have some really close friends at the show and we appreciate it :)

We made some good music and then made a get-away for the Warner Music party downtown. We hung with our new friend Danielle Bond and met some people, drank a little, blah, blah, blah...oh shit! ALL our stuff is still at the club....hopped in the Blaze and Dukes of Hazard(ed) our way back to Silverlake. We made it just in time and packed the stuff up.
alt
A perfect mast.

On the drive back to the hotel, I blew a GaskeTronic 5000 and embarrassed myself in front of Mark. (sorry Zac!)

Tonight, we sleep. Tomorrow, we play Oakland......comin at ya sex machine mike!

Greek Theatre // Los Angeles, CA
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dave and I woke up at a Super 8 on Sunset Strip (classssssayyyy) and went to Brite Food Shop to meet my friend Tony Crowe for some breakfast snacks. Tony is hilarious. He almost made my omelet come out of my nose. He and I used to work together in Boston for a guy named Tom Love. (Tom Love is the voice behind Van Pilates... ah.) Zac showed up and we took off for the GREEK THEATRE!
The Greek is an amazing outdoor joint in LA that makes you feel like you're in some other country. One where they have woodland nymphs and fur wearing centaurs... Here are some pics:
alt
altI was so excited my hair turned purple.
altIts almost time for us to start! Let's go peek at the audience.... Oh.
altKidding! Of course every one of the 6000 seats had asses in them when we hit the stage! Right before we went on K bestowed the greatest gift any man has ever given any other man in the history of California. He made Dave a ridiculous beat-machine-slash-microphone-rap-superhero-device. Its called the MAN/MACHINE! Dave went into overdrive. Freestyle rapping up and down everybody he came across. It was intense. He positioned himself atop the VIP entrance stairs and forcefully rapped in the faces of all VIPs, including:
Glen from "Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia!" One of Dave's heros. Pure. Magic.
altAnd our friends Pat Blewett, Lucy and Karensa showed up!
altKarensa kept making out with the guy selling t-shirts. Come ON, Karensa!!! Tighten up a little.
altPat Blewett kept trying to make out with me. Lay off already!
altCSN played here last year!
alt
alt
These folks were real nice. We yapped for awhile. Then I realized it was a school night and booted them out. Let it be known that Jupiter One urges kids to stay in school and NOT to hang around with drunk Panda Bears until all hours of the night.
altOh. And Bryn showed up. More on him tomorrow. He'll be guest starring for a couple days.
alt
I split to catch up with Bryn while Dave and Zac went wild MAN/MACHINING Rosanna Arquette and Fab Moretti until their faces fell off. Tomorrow Zac's brother Mark is coming! Texans!
San Diego ----> Los Angeles, CA (Weirdie)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

There we were...

Hungover. Aunt Ryoko knocking on the bedroom doors. "Breakfast is ready!" The smell of bacon in the air... Exactly like we remembered it. It hurt. It was beautiful.

We woke up to the sound of dishes being laid out and eggs cracking... Oh... and the gong pounding in our brains. Zac and I were about to have a very civil sit-down with Uncle Jim and Aunt Ryoko and we would be perfect gentlemen... if we could only pull ourselves together.

We ate. We yapped. We drank quarts of coffee. We looked at art. We got showers. We made plans to get dropped off in a touristy part of San Diego. Meanwhile... in a faraway land... Dave did situps. He had the BLAZE' and there was no telling how long he would be working on his glutes and pelvs.

Uncle Jim drove us to some wierdo place in San Diego that was like being in an Old West themed amusement park. He treated Zac and I to tacos and a couple beers and sent us on our way. Zac tried to sleep on a bench like a hobo. I convinced him that it was way more classy to drink tequila while the sun was out... like a TRUE hobo.

alt
After a couple he got warm... and the coats started to peel off... ladies: control yourselves...

alt
Boosh.

Dave found us sitting in easy chairs by a fire talking about God-knows-what. It was one of the 3 times on tour he was relegated to driving duty. This is very terrifying and only allowed to happen when Zac and I are sleeping or drunk. Or both. Dave did a very good job. Maybe someday he'll be promoted to Junior Blaze' Captain.

alt
alt
We saw Aaron Zimmer's van's cousin!

alt
Zac woke up and fought his clothes.

alt
When we got to L.A., Zac went to visit his friends and Dave and I went out to see his friend Sarah's band cover a bunch of Fleetwood Mac songs in traditional Fleetwood Mac costumes. It was really great. They blew our minds. We went to a bar afterward and made sure they didn't blow Dave's ears, too. Jupiter One Hearing Test:::

Dave's head:
alt

Then we snoooooozed. Tomorrow GREEK THEATRE! Can't wait.

San Diego, CA @ House of Blues
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We rolled into San Diego pretty late last night and met up with our friends Stacy and Javi....they live in a fancy-pants condo and we had a good time catching up all night. (At least Pat and Zac did) I went straight to bed like a wimp...all that non-driving across the country wiped me out. It was great seeing them and even better waking up to THIS in the morning.....
alt
We finally made it to California!
I ran around in short shorts while Pat and Zac sorted out all the t-shirts and CD's in the garage ...i'm sure the residents were confused. We showered up and drove to the House of Blues where we met McKenzie's replacement...Mr. Matt Chamberlain! (great drummer who played with Tori Amos, David Bowie, Pearl Jam, and now Regina Spektor)
The House of Blues has a VERY strict No-Leaning policy....we alerted K right away.
alt
***For those who don't know, after a few drinks our singer K has a tendency to lean on anyone he's talking with....some parts of the country have gotten wind of this behavior and take the necessary precautions. Some examples have been seen below:
alt
alt
Back to the House Of Blues....we were couped up in the van for 4 days straight so playing felt REAL REAL good....
alt
alt
alt
alt
alt
alt
Thanks for the pics Meredith!
MTaylor@VeronicaScott.com
We were happy to see Stacy, Javi, Christine, and Jason again...they brought us cookies! We also had a ticket give-away on FACEBOOK and Pat's friend Stephanie Washburn won :) It was good to see her there with her friend Wave....Not to mention our home boy Matt Quillen!!!
alt
After the show Pat and Zac went home with Uncle Jim Reid while I went home with Stacy and Javi....we had some drinks first around the corner where we met Sabra, and then headed back to the condo. Stacy passed out and Javi made me a RIDICULOUSLY awesome meal at 3am...thanks!
Pat's gonna fill you in on their night.....take it away Panda!
All right, DAVE!!
Finally, time to get a goddamn word in edgewise. If there's one thing you ought to know about Dave, dear readers, is that he talks and talks and talks day and night. Talks to everybody he sees about everything under tha sun. Talks in his sleep. Its endless. When he's not talking, he's typing. Fast. Furious. We put weights on his fingers to slow him down, but he counteracts that with protein powder. Strongest fingers ever. Anyhooooooo....
Zac and I left the venue with his Uncle Jim. Time for us to get schooled by the master. Zac's uncle, as you may remember from last year, is a fascinating individual... an informational powerhouse of all things music. He knows everything. He tries to teach us everything, but then hampers us with mixed nuts and wine until I usually fall asleep mid-sentence. Which I did... but, not before hearing some amazing recordings and getting my mind blown with this visit's topic of discussion: Does music influence recording technology, or the other way around? You're answer must be no less than a million words. You have 5 minutes. Go!
Here's Uncle Jim's lab:
alt
alt
alt
alt
We drank 100 bottles of wine, ate 1 of each kind of nut found under the sun and stayed up til dawn listening to all kinds of stuff. Aunt Ryoko has a STRICT deadline for breakfast! 10am?! Better hit the sack or we'll never make itzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....
Jupiter One Goes to The Grand Canyon!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

We woke up in some weirdytown and followed signs for the Northern Rim. The drive was a little longer than expected, but that's just cuz we're so excited!
alt

alt
When we got to the Park Entrance, we were told it costs money to get in!!!! We couldn't afford it, so we didn't get inside. But we DID find this highly detailed map....it's beautiful!
alt
As we started to drive back we saw some wildlife....
alt

alt

alt
Naturally, we shot them. Then sold the pelts to some local shop keeps and earned ourselves just enough money to cover the price of admission! (*all except the bear. That one turned out to be bronze) We drove right back around and got ourselves to the Grand Canyon.....
alt

alt

alt

alt

Now you might be asking yourself, "How did this get here and where did all the water go??" Good question. Watch this video for answers...

At some point we had lost Pat...it was clear he must've lost his footing and plummeted to his death...we called out to him FOREVER, but after 40 to 50 seconds we had lost hope. He was gone :(

Even this sign warned us of the dangers that lie in extreme Arizona heat....
alt
We bowed our heads in respect and uttered a few words on behalf of the family and friends that will miss him over the years.....What a great bass player. What a great MAN. So sad. So tragic.
alt
Then we heard something, "Hey Guys! I'm over here!"
alt
He's alive! So weird!! I mean, who would've guessed in a million years that he'd just up and walked all the way over THERE????? We just figured he was dead. So amazing!!! We didn't let him out of our sight for the rest of the day...
alt
Zac and Pat talked about things that had been left un-said for way too long.....
alt
We each took some time to reflect on what life was like when we thought Pat was gone forever...
alt
alt
alt
Pat was unclear as to what exactly he was supposed to be reflecting on so we decided to head out and go visit my buddy Jim Maurer. He and his wife Lynn just had a baby and live in Phoenix (-ish).
alt
We got to the Maurer house and Sean was wearing a rocker's onezie...
alt
I showed her what a rock band's van looks like....
alt
Turns out she's more of a "Tour Bus" type. She started bawling...Apparently whenver Sean gets cranky, the only thing that makes her feel better is dressing up like a hot dog.
alt
Jim and Lynn know that we're always starving so they ordered some pizzas while we taked about Lynn giving birth and Jim running triathlons. Congrats to both of you and we hope to see you again soon!
alt
Which famous cartoon character does Jim look like??
Here's a hint: It's Shaggy from Scooby-Doo.

P.S. Glad yer alive Pat.

Westward Bound (Pat's B-day!)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Okay. It's the morning. You ready for some serious spinal movement, Pat?!
alt
alt
alt
Kaci made good on her promise for Pat's birthday present.....She was great and anyone in the Amarillo, TX area looking for some adjusting should give her a call!
alt
Now Pat was feeling like he could take on the open road again for a couple more days...
alt
alt
alt
alt
alt
alt
alt
One of Pat's closest friends and former employers, Jim, is a trucker....he and his girlfriend, Amy, travel around the country all year round. Occasionally, we'll be able to cross paths....today is one of those days and it MUST be fate cuz it's Pat's birthday and yesterday was JIM's birthday (also mine). Apparently, the best bass player of our lifetime likes Oct. 23rd babies the mostest.
alt
We figured out which rest stop to meet him and gave his truck a free check-up....
alt
Yup. All clear. Good seeing you guys!
alt
We got back on the road, but the Birthday Boy needed a pick-me-up.....
alt
alt
Really? At the DQ?
alt
Best Birthday lunch ever!
alt
alt
At this point Pat was all hopped up on Burgers and Blizzards.....we were lookin for some trouble.... seeeerrrrioussss trouble!
alt
"Wait. Pat....what's that up ahead???"
alt
"It looks like a....wait....looks like...."
alt
"..like a TRAAAAAIN! Let's race it!!!!"
alt
Now that we'd made it clear the SilverBlaze could NOT be beat, we stopped off to grab the new Flaming Lips record to simmer down...
alt
alt
We took the rest of the drive a little easy......
alt
alt
Pat's birthday was coming to an end...while he counted the FB birthday wishes, to see which one of us had more,
alt
...we got ourselves to an Arizona hotel.....Grand Canyon in the morning!!!
Happy Birthday Pat....we crossed a couple time zones and celebrated our birthdays together for 51 hours.....love you!
Westward Bound (Dave AND Pat's B-day)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We woke up in the morning and got back on the road....Pat always makes fun of me for taking so many sunset pics, but today's my birthday. I can take AS MANY AS I WANT!
alt
(thanks for the card Jack!)

alt
alt
alt
alt
alt
Zac wanted to write some new music....but the acoustic guitar is buried in the back. Give up? Hell no! Zac gets what he wants...I don't know hot to make a "gif" so just look at these real fast and pretend you can see the action.....
alt
alt
alt
alt
alt
There's only an hour left of my Birthday! Time to eat the Cupcake Laura bought me...
alt
And now....we hand off the birthday torch to Pat.
alt
Happy Birthday Pat!!!
alt
We stopped off at a TARGET earlier and I picked him up some presents.......nothing says rock 'n' roll like some Ginger Tea and Pilates Workout Bands!
alt
alt
We decided Amarillo, TX was just as good a place as any to pull over and celebrate Panda's birth.....(we wound up pulling over for a speeding ticket first), but THEN we pulled over for some fun....after another round of my specialized cold-calling technique for "happening" bars:

We settled on a place called "DUKE TRACY's,"
alt
alt
Pat should blend RIGHT in with the "No Gang Colors" policy...

What lied behind those doors...no one knew. But what we found was a TX dive bar paradise!
alt
alt
I knew right away we had found the place....this was perfect. The dance floor was alternating every 20 minutes between country Kareoke and Booty Bass Club Music.....inter-racial dancing on one side of the room while racist skin heads played pool on the other.....this was a room FILLED with tension and good times!
alt
The rest of the guys weren't convinced....
alt
...but give them a few whiskeys with a burrito and all is well...
alt
We even helped this nice girl Kaci win a bet....
altApparently her and some friends were gambling on one of two things. We were either musicians.... or gay. Turns out Kaci is a Chiropractor and Pat needed an adjustment...so we felt it only fair that since we won her some $$, she hook him up with some back-cracks in the morning.

Things started to pick up at the bar just before last call and you can really see some folks workin' the floor...(* see video)

alt
alt

Alas, we were finally kicked out with the rest of the Amarillo socialites and sent to our lodging of choice.....
alt
Now THAT's how you have an Amarillo B-Day....Cheers to us.

Westward Bound (Dave's Birthday)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So we woke up the next morning....
alt
alt
...still laughing at Doogie Howser as a "bad ass".... but now we had to get to Cali and we're only in fucking PENNSYLVANIA! After putting Los Angeles in as our destination, even Georgine had NO idea when we'd get there...
alt
Nothing to do....but drive. So we did. All day.
alt
alt
And by "we" I mean Zac and Pat...
alt
They've formed their own little driving team called "The Lightning Bandits," where Pat is "Panda" and Zac is "The Cat."
alt
I just watch for storm systems to chase....
alt
Not much else happened.....By the time it hit midnight we were in Missouri and it was officially my birthday! Time to make some calls...gotta find a local bar that's "happening."
We quickly pulled off to a shady hotel and went straight to the weirdy bowling alley bar for a PIZZA PARTY! Only like 2 locals in there playing awful country...not sure if they appreciated my domination of the jukebox, but....who cares. It's my birthday. (boosh)
We were eating, drinking, and listening to Led Zeppelin all night....
alt
Thanks for all the fruity drinks guys!
Westward Bound!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Today we start our drive to Cali hung over and tired...luckily we had K's daughter buckled in and ready to drive the first 500 miles or so....

alt
just kidding. We didn't REEEEAAAAALLY let a 3 year old drive the Blaze...but we DID let her Mom give us all the food she had in the house for our trip...thanks Keiko and Sola!!!
alt
We kinda got off to a late start....which is why the sun was already setting as we crossed the Garden State....
alt
alt
We were happy to be back in the van and headed to the warmth of Los Angeles so we just listened to a new mix CD sent from FL and ate all the food Keiko packed....
alt
alt
alt
No time to stop Zac! Just EAT it!!!
alt
I think Pat was just screening and eating nuts with an occasional Diet Coke. It doesn't take much to sustain life whilst sitting in a van for 3,500 miles. (THAT's why you need VanPilates. Coming soon...)

That first day of driving was long and hard....we were proud of how much land we covered. So you can imagine the heartbreak when we eventually pulled off at a hotel to find out we were in Pennsylvania...wtf?? That state never ends! ugh.

We needed some help coping....nothing a little Bulleit "Hallie" Bourbon and some Starship Troopers couldn't fix.....

NYC @ Mercury Lounge (CMJ Birthday Show)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We woke up the next morning feeling like a long-eared taxi just dragged us up a cliff by our ankles....tonight was our CMJ showcase at Mercury Lounge and a bunch of friends were coming to celebrate our birthdays so we NEEDED to rally. Mine is October 23rd and Pat's is the 24th, but we'll be in the van driving towards the West Coast on those days, so tonight's the night for celebration....we kicked things off at one of Pat's favorite haunts, No Malice Palace....
alt
alt
alt
alt
alt
alt
alt
alt
alt
alt
alt
alt
alt
alt
Among some of the amazing friends that hung that night was our favorite manager Ryan....he got us Sumo Thumb Wrestlers!
alt
alt
(that's our boy Aaron Zimmer in the back. classy as ever)
alt
alt
These bar tenders are on the highest spot on the highest list of the highest person in charge of making really high lists.....
alt
This is Jake.
alt
This is Ron.
I say this because they bought EVERY single person in that bar a shot....
alt
alt
We were very happy to see all our friends, flattered by the party decorations, and hungry for the gifts.....
alt
But we had to go play a show at Mercury Lounge....and there we'd find MORE presents to be thirsty for....compliments of our favorite Swedes :)
alt
(Fun Fact: You'll also see Elinor in the "Made In A Day" Music Video)
Thanks to everyone who came to the show!
alt
alt
alt
alt
alt
alt
alt
alt
We had a good time, but then around 3am reality set in that we had to drive to California in the morning.....One thing was make that drive a WHOLE lot easier.....thanks for the goodie bags and birthday balloons Christina! Oh! and the Simpler Times beers... they'll hurt in the morning... and leave us thinking... "Remember when it was simpler times??"
alt
Thanks for hanging with us everyone...love you!
Philadelphia, PA @ North Star Bar
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

We all went home to sleep in our own beds after the Danbury show since Philly is so close. On our way down, we stopped by 105.7 to do a studio recording for the radio station....

alt
We played "Flaming Arrow" and "Made In A Day"....
alt
alt
...featuring me on table....
alt
...and Pat on rhythmic iPhone text...
alt
alt
We had a good time and we wanna thank the DJs for their dedicated camera work....
alt
alt
Thanks for the session guys. We were also very impressed to see you can accomodate In-Studio Hernia checks...
alt
Today is a busy one....we have to get down to my cousins garage by 3pm to fix that side-view mirror. He owns a shop on Torresdale Avenue in Philly and ALWAYS takes care of the Blaze whenever she's sick or hungry.
alt
Or, in this case, whenever she's been jumped by a couple of hoodlums in Brooklyn :(

alt
As soon as we got to Millevoi Bros., we gave Nick a hug and a t-shirt.....
alt
....and then HE gave US the Super, Parascopic, Heavy Duty, Side-Mirror 7000.....
alt
alt
alt
boosh

It was definitely an UPgrade so now the Blaze looks a little goofy with one side more hi-tech than the other, but it's cool. Now she's kinda like Bionic-Blaze.
alt
Pat threw some new wipers on her too. Now we can see through ANY shit storm, the cars behind us, and even into the future.
alt
Thanks for setting us up cousin Nick! (Our A/C just broke so we'll be seeing you again soon)
alt
Off we go to the North Star Bar...we get to play with our friends ME AND MY ARROW again :)
alt
alt
alt
alt(the "Health Nut" corner in Philly)

There's Jacob in the parking lot....
alt
They spent the night at this guy's house from last night's show in CT. I can imagine it being an interesting place to sleep cuz I heard that guy use the following pick-up line (twice):
"Nice pants. Wanna fuck?" I'm just glad they got breakfast out of it....

We loaded into the club, walked to a shady joint for some "PTD Approved" vodka (passion fruit A.K.A. "Burning Man"), and mused on life in the van.
alt
My sister and bro-in-law showed up with a Funfetti Cake from my Mom...
alt
This is the same sister that made a legit Jupiter One Concert T-Shirt for my 1 year old nephew... pretty bad ass:
alt
alt
Back to the cake business...We quickly made a wish, blew out the candles, and served it up to all the hungry musicians in the club...thanks for bringing it our way Susan and Jeff!
alt
alt
alt
Our wish came true! A very generous fan showed up with his lady to buy us all shots and drinks....thanks Matt and Dana :)
alt
And not a moment too soon. My cousin Erica and her friends just showed up...now we can embarrass the whole family!
alt
alt
Thanks to the generous flow of alcohol (even my Aunt Annie came to the show bearing some gifts) we put on an extremely fun/drunken show. But you couldn't tell...until we tried walking OFF the stage. And that was ME AND MY ARROW's doing....thanks for the round guys >:(
alt
alt
alt
alt
There's a review with pics of the show HERE

Special thanks to Kristina Luland, Rick Flederbach, Alison Yard Medland, Jenny Kraemer, Martin Dominguez, Stephanie "Toni Toni Toni" Patrizio, Sean Qaisaunnee, and Sharon Sable for coming out to help Pat celebrate his b-day with me...see you in January Philly! (Jan. 9th @ North Star Bar)

At the end of the night we needed to get back home to NYC and we were all in NO shape to drive...as you can see here:
alt
Luckily Liz, a friend of ours and part-time angel, showed up. She lives in my neighborhood and drove us all the way home through the night.
alt
Zac says, "thanks."
alt
FUN FACT: Liz Long designs recyclable bags (Bag The Habit) and made an appearance in our Music Video for "Made In A Day."

Thanks again Liz :)

Danbury, CT @ Cousin Larry's
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We woke up the next morning and had some crazy, weird, middle-eastern breakfast quiche thing that Debbie made. It looked nuts, but it tasted great...
alt
alt
alt
Thanks Deb!
J.P. sent us off in the van with this book of written works regarding his fictitious, dream band "DINGO BOOTS."
alt
To live inside J.P.'s head for just one minute would be I-N-C-R-E-D-I-B-L-E....he's amazing.
alt
Pat updated his status......
alt
....and off we went to Danbury, CT. (***little known fact---we actually have no idea WHAT we're doing or WHERE we're going until Pat updates his FB status. We all go to his page to figure out what's happening)
The drive was a cake jog and we were excited to meet up with our old friends from Minneapolis ME AND MY ARROW
alt
They were on tour at the same time so we got to meet up for 2 shows! Their T-Shirts are kick-ass and their music is kick-dick. You should definitely check them out if you ever get a chance.....
alt
alt
Me and My Arrow
Pat's elementary school buddies Russell and Mammoth Boy came out to the show....
alt
alt
One time Mammoth Boy picked up a car when he was 15. He also threw up all over the table at a Boy Scout meeting after drinking too much water. Good to see you Mark the Magical Mammoth! (as confirmed by the Catholic Church)
alt
alt
alt
alt
Our faithful fan, Matt, came out to the show.
alt
He also saw us in Northampton, MA a few days ago, but what's special about this guy in particular is his last name. "Bergeron." That also happens to be the last name used by Kurt Vonnegut in one of my favorite short stories, Harrison Bergeron.
alt
Give it a read when you can...
Special thanks to my friend Melissa who braved a hit and run at a gas station just to get there in time for the show....AND to give me birthday cookies!!!!!
Arlington, VA @ IOTA
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We got on the road and left Chapel Hill for Arlington, VA....

alt
The drive was a pretty one....

alt
alt
We got to the club super early for an ALL AGES show and hung with our friends Bellflur and Big Bang TV all day....Ice Man beat Margo there so we got some food with him at Whitlow's before the show started.
alt
Bellflur

We missed the BBTV photo op, but they put on a great show and we were SO psyched to meet Matt Brehoney's family....Our set was a lot of fun, but the best part is always seeing our friends like Robin, Alison Yard, Amy, Dan, Erica, Kerri, Dane, Suzie,Burns, and Steven...see you again soon we hope!

After the show, we all hopped in the van and went to Papa Brehoney's house in Vienna.....J.P.'s the name, and fun times with fried potatos' the game.

alt
His wife Debbie had cute glasses and songs for the masses...(*see video)

alt
Many a fun times were to be had at the beautiful Brehoney home. J.P. actually designs them for a living and he's INcredible...check out his living room

alt
He even created a room dedicated to listening and performing live music! He calls it the "Beat Cafe"....

alt
alt
alt
J.P. kicked things off with some acoustic versions of songs by The Beatles, Leonard Cohen, and he even threw in his own take on "Countdown." This guy is solid gold. We love him. He invited his pride & joy up next for some Big Bang TV tunes....later we joined forces for a Dreamstreet re-union and performed "Girl, Don't You Know You're Everything to Me, This Time, Girl?"

alt
alt
Although we had iLighters raised for an encore, K insisted on stepping up with some songs of his own....
alt
Debbie was inspired and came up to join him on a number or two.....
alt
The crowd was mesmerized...
alt
At intermission we all went to snack town in the kitchen....
alt
alt
alt
Debbie was on bacon duty all night...
alt
Kate's milkshake was bringing boys to the yard...
alt
Drew and Pat were battling for who's plaid-er...
alt
...and I was getting a tan.

alt
After 20 minutes in "the booth" I decided to get the beatz ready for some freestyle-improv Kriss Kross style...
alt
Bring on the Haiku-Based RaP Talk!
Haiku-Based Rap, or "HBR," is a special skillset that involves breaking down the traditional lyrical 4 line form of ABAB. In HBR, the rapper will rhyme the first 2 lines, not the 3rd, and replace what WOULD BE the 4th line with an eastern melody on the syllables "Da-na."
Like so,
AABC where C is not a lyric, but the eastern melody.

For example:
A: My name is Dave and I got a gun,
A: It don't have bullets cuz I only shoot fun,
B: I bought it from a guy named Steve Galbini
C: Da-na-na-na-na'-na'-na'-na'-naaaa

I think poor Kate is the only one who stuck around to watch the whole "performance."
alt
After a long night we retired to our very own sleeping quarters ...
alt
...where I was actually tucked in and told a bed-time story about Unicorns. Thanks Debbie and J.P.! (I had nightmares) just kidding. (except i'm not) all the unicorns died.

Chapel Hill, NC @ Players
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We drove a few hours to Chapel Hill and got to our friend Nick Stroud's new club called PLAYERS. He co-owns it with a friend and we were very excited to be there. When we arrived for load-in there seemed to be some strange Hitchcock-esque madness happening amongst the birds....they just kept flying in circles right above our heads!
We walked around town, had some drinks with our friends Courtney and Cameron (Cameron plays drums in a band called AMINAL), and then went upstairs to hear the other bands....Tripp and Wylie Hunter played with us and we're happy to have such great guys to hang with all night. Thanks!
One of my high school friends Carrie drove all the way from Raleigh, so I owed her a few drinks. As you can see by those eyes, I made good :)
alt
We kinda dropped the ball on pics that night, but bear hugs to Ashley, Mallory, and Lara for hanging out...thanks to Nick for taking such good care of us....and thanks to Cameron for the shelter!
Charlotte, NC @ The Evening Muse
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We woke up super early the next day and took a 12 hour drive (traffic) to Charlotte, NC. Pat went home with his friends and decided to meet us at the rest stop on the NJ Turnpike. Clara Barton baby!!! On the drive down everyone was pretty beat.....Pat kept calling objects out that he saw along the way and telling his friend Ryan that it was him...

"See that dead tree there, Ryan? That's you." --
"See that Hobo out there hitch hiking, Ryan? That's you." --
"See that shitty Pick-Up truck, Ryan? That's you."

Granted it made no sense, but it was early and Ryan was in no mood...
alt
Also, the time 10:41 happens to be a recurring theme in Pat's life...most every time he looks at the clock, he sees this....

alt
It freaks him out and we're still trying to figure out the meaning behind it. Some guesses are as follows:

1) He's gonna die on October 41st.
2) He's gonna live to be 104.1 years old.
3) He was born in OCtober 1941 (in a former life).
4) He was born on January, 4th 0001 (several former lives ago)

We're not sure which it is yet. anywhooo, we picked him up and finally got to the Evening Muse around 9:30pm. It was a fun night because we played with our friends BIG BANG TV and it was also the 26th Wedding Anniversary of our friends Don and Laurie Koster! (Rock 'n' Roll Hotel). Big Bang TV sounded great and we had the best group of people come out to the show.....
alt
After the show we hung with some old friends and then took Don for a ride in the Blaze...
alt
Off to the R'n'R Hotel to eat Judy's cookies all night. The next morning we ate a HUGE breakfast and watched the Traveling Wilburys Documentary.....
alt
alt
alt
We also watched an old VHS tape of Don winning a Harley Motorcycle by crawling around the basketball court in a Hornet's Mask Blindfold.....totally weird to see, but we're proud of you DON!!!!

We had a great time with you guys and your hospitality is always SUPER appreciated...thanks for spending your anniversary with us :)

Love,
D, Z, P, and K

P.S. Sorry we fed Roscoe all those pancakes....

NYC @ Radio City Music Hall (AHAWHAAAAT?!?!?!)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
alt
We spent the day off going to cousin Nichole's Miss Lonelyhearts Party and kicking it ALL mu'ffin' N-I-G-H-T!!! Raging until dawn......(at least that's what we planned on doing) ....sorry Nichole!
Can't remember what we all wound up doing instead, but I know Pat was riding the subways listening to YIELD....We had to wake up real early and load-in to the venue at 9am. ugh. It took Zac a minute to get there cuz some jerk-off bashed the sideview mirror off the Blaze....poor BLAZE!!! We issued a $5,000 bounty on the head of this mysterious vandal with Jon Sordoni.....if HE can't locate and disppose of the man's limbs, then it was a ghost or giant spider.
Pat even consulted the magic disco ball for answers.....
alt
...no luck. It just kept saying, "party time."
The house looked like this that morning....
alt
Pretty soon it would look like this...
alt
We had a real solid crew of Union guys bringing the stuf in and they couldn't believe how "nice" we were. They kept telling us to be meaner, ...that they could handle it, but Zac just kept smiling with that sweet, boyish grin of his. (We're never gonna make it with this attitude) Thank God Pat stepped in when he did and slapped a guy square in the nuts. Totally saved our reputation.
We hung with Ryan for a bit talking about the day's events,ate some breakfast, went home, and then came back around 3pm. (Just realized this sentence probably doesn't need to be here,,,,,,nonetheless, there it is.)
When we got to the dressing room, we were greeted by a bouquet of flowers....awwwwww
alt
....BUT no booze. Hmmm...I'm on it.
alt
We were restless and Pat got some Birthday Money so he picked up a Grown Man's drink....
alt
Look who came up to hang with us...
alt
..,,,BEER!
(Oh yeah. Mocha was there too)
K needed to warm up and Zac was still sick so he brought out an old time friend...."Mr. Neti Pot."
It's almost Go Time.....i'm too excited...gotta get rid of this boner somehow!!!!
alt
Ryan gave us a pep talk and we headed down to the stage.....
alt
alt
House lights came down....stage lights went up.....
alt
(this photo: Pearse Daly)
CLICK HERE for a review of the show by Nell Alk for PaperMag. On a sidenote, we also owe Nell a big hug for putting our record in the hands of "Phoenix." One of our faves....
alt
After our set we got to see lots of friends and family.....
alt
DINOOOOOOO!
alt
Ryan, Ricky, and Joey
alt
Nana (she's 86 and STILL hot)
alt
Kristy, Rick, Lyndsey, Rose, Reagan, and Kristen
(A.K.A. The SPF Limo Rollers)
I wish there were pics of all our friends and family, but I think we were all a bit caught up in the moment. So many important people came out to see the show and we'd just like to say THANKS and WE LOVE YOU. That night would NOT have been the same without you there...
After the show we hung around real real late....Then I remembered we left cousin Erica in the van with Shane for the last couple hours....woops
alt
Sorry Erica!
alt
Me and Zac were too busy looking at video clips of Veikko jogging in jean shorts so K had to drive us home....
alt
Good Job buddy.....
alt
It's rare that he's allowed to drive, but luckily we all made it home safely. Thanks for an amazing night everyone!!!
Love,
D, Z, K, and P
Northampton, MA @ The Calvin Theatre
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Today was the first day that it felt cold. We had the day off yesterday so we all hibernated and did whatever it is that we do when we're not together... which is almost never these days... so it takes about half a day of going through old photos and journal entries to figure out what exactly it IS that we like doing when we're by ourselves... anyhoo...

We packed in the Blaze and BLAAAAAAAZZZEEEEEDDD to Massachussetts, the Land of Lincoln {citation needed}. When we got to The Calvin Theatre we loaded in and found that our guitar stand (named Guitar World') was busted. I went to the nearest hardware that I could find that represents EVERYTHING Jupiter One stands for to get it fixed.

alt
True Value... duh.

Then we drank tea and scavenged snacks, because there was no catering. You see, we've become accustomed to a certain level of comfort on this tour (food and booze til the cows come home), but THIS time we found ourselves with our pants pulled down. "Neither?!!? We're gonna DIE!!" We ate cookies and cheese and lived to see another day.

The Calvin Theatre was a nice place to play. The folks there were really nice. I saw my cousin Johanna for the first time in 15 years or so. She's a super sweetie.

alt

K's friend Patrick came (no relation).

alt
Also my friend Jana Pedersen came. She's from Storrs, CT and does weird things that NOBODY SHOULD EVER KNOW ABOUT!!!! And Jessica Hurley drove two hours with her fiancé and they were sweet as all get out.

We left and ate some gas station chicken wraps and prayed that we wouldn't puke ourselves to sleep. Day off tomorrow, then Wednesday @ RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL!!!

Until then.... there's Jeff Taylor....

New York City! - K on Saturday Night Live
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So K flew back to NYC from Atlanta with Regina's crew while we took the scenic route (read: the BLAZE.) But, while we were goofing off and having tons of fun with no responsibility whatsoever, K was under the tight iron grip of VEIKKO! Regina's tour manager. (gasp!) That man is tall and he doesn't mess around.
The light at the end of K's dark, dark, strudel filled tunnel was Regina's Saturday Night Live show! Here's a clip:
We were super proud to see all those fine folks on stage. Regina sang like a siren, McKenzie was in the pocket, Dan Cho was calm and collected, and K had clean clothes on! Great work guys!
Atlanta --> New York City & Rockwood Music Hall
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Zac, Dave and I woke up in a hotel room next to the bar we boozed ourselves in the night before. Nobody can remember for sure right now the exact chain of events that morning, but I'm sure we gassed the Blaze, grabbed a few quarts of coffee and hauled ass, 'cause that's how we roll, ya heard? I drove and practiced different styles of yelling at K, cuz he wasn't there... K!!!!! K!!!!!!!!!! KAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYUUUUHHHOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

alt
Destination #1: Margo and Iceman's house.

We've got no pictures of this hang, but what had happinnd wuz... we arrived to a delicious home cooked meal, did a local bar run with Margo, Margo threw up in the toilet as soon as we got home, Iceman's toilet broke and all of us woke up to RotoRooter and bagels. Again: gas, coffee, ass-haul.

Final Destination: New York City! Home sweet home (of weird vans).

alt

We had to shake back to the city ASAP to play a show with our alter-ego band Fancy Colors. (basically Jupiter One + Jeff Taylor + Bob Parins - K) See tiny image below:

alt

alt

We may or may not have gotten a little too excited before the show and may or may not have tried to out-do each other with weirdie tequila and may or may not have been a teensy bit less than the tightest band in the western hemisphere, but... who cares!? ROCKWOOD FRIDAY NIGHT! The Mighty Ken Rockwood was on the mixer and everyone was feelin fine. A bunch of our good friends stopped in including, but not limited to:

alt
Al Hicks and his lady The Lex.

alt
Jon "Ticonderoga Bitchslap" Sordoni

alt
Even Ol' McKenzie made an appearance and got into a gang sign fight with Jeff. Who will win?? Only the Shadow knows. Solid Friday in NYC!!

JUPITER ONE MEETS ZACH GALIFIANAKIS!!!

Atlanta, GA @ The Tabernacle
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We woke up in this lovely Nashville neighborhood...
alt
...and assembled to the van like soldiers to their tank.
alt
alt
alt
Except one of our soldiers was already IN the tank...passed out from last night.
alt
Thanks for letting us crash at your house Beau! Zac's not feeling well and Pat's still drunk so under the Force Majeure clause...I get to drive!
alt
Pat and Zac are a driving team known as "The Lightning Bandits" and very rarely do they acquiesce the driver's seat to Professor X or Screen-O. It was a foggy, dismal day...
alt
alt
...perfect drive for Band of Horses.
alt
Along the way, we spotted the Blaze's younger, fun-loving, irresponsible-yet-charming cousin...
alt
...and a truck sandwich.
alt
We got to Atlanta and realized we had an extra ticket so we did a Facebook give-away. Randomly Pat's friend, Kimani, was on-line and won the ticket! (Although this reeks of nepotism I can ssure you it's a total coincidence)
alt
Would THIS face cheat???
The Tabernacle is a beautiful venue and we're REAL REAL happy they renovated it after that hurricane hit awhile back....
alt
We played a fun show to a really rad crowd and thought the night couldn't get any better...
alt
....until we walked backstage and met ZACH GALIFIANAKIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
alt
Our Zac confused Hilarity Zach by introducing himself as Zac....then drunk K "leaned" all over him...I told him all the Sting stories I knew...and Pat took a picture of his balls.
alt
(look! there's a "spit cup" and Jupiter One CD!)
Zach was SO cool to hang with and a real solid dude....I think he appreciated the fact that we've been fans of his stuff for a l-o-n-g time....The Snuggler! I think I remember actually tickling his leg and saying, "Climb up the ladder...c'mon...climb up the ladder." One of our faves...
I'm not sure if anything can top that night, but we're open-minded...Later on we went out with some new friends, Dan Cho and McKenzie for some drinks. While we reminisced on how awesome the last 60 minutes were, K slept in the backseat of someone's car...eventually the party wound down and we got a hotel room.
Good Night Atlanta
Nashville, TN @ The Basement
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

We drove to WV's Mountain Stage and watched Regina amaze the crowd with her crooning. I gave her a musket ball from Gettysburg (she tried to give it back) and then we kidnapped K. McKenzie and Dan Cho had to ride on the "Tour Bus" with sleeper bunks, a bathroom, lounge, and kitchen. Ha...SUCKERS!

K jumped in the Blaze and we took EZ street (via Don Knotts Blvd)....
alt

alt
...through the night straight to Nashville, TN. We had our friend Beau waiting for us and now that he's a married man we couldn't wait to give him his 67 punches to the groin. (isn't that the tradition?? Or was that just something my Nana made up so I'd never get married).

After killing several thousand bugs with our windshield....

alt
...and witnessing the fiery death of Optimus Prime while driving himself drunk...

alt
...we finally got to the club. We needed Burnett's, but didn't wanna lose our parking spot (for those who know The Basement, you also know that lot is a dick-punch for big vans) so Pat and I walked 2 miles to the liquor store. Wasn't too bad cuz we got to catch up on things like girls, punching K in the nuts, music, punching K in the nuts, girls...stuff like that. Oh yeah. And we also met a cat walking past the Museum for Furniture and Cats.

alt

alt
We called him "Pe...Pyopi."

Back at the bar we got to play a fun show and hang with our friends HEYPENNY and Beau from Computer Vs. Banjo. We met some new faces and a couple girls showed up later with some abandoned puppies in their hands. K was scared it was a scam and threw the puppy at the wall. Turns out it wasn't a scam. (The puppy's gonna be fine in a couple weeks)

Pat and I went to Cafe Coco for a "jam session" around 2am but it was just 3 guys playing Jack Johnson licks on guitars. Time for bed. Always a pleasure seeing our friends and we'll back in Nashville at The Ryman in November....Good Night!

DAY OFF in Gettysburg, PA!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Who likes educational fun?
We do.
Pat and I are going to co-BLOG the events on this fine Autumn Day.....
Dave= Apricot Nectar
Pat= Aqua-Marine
We put "Gettysburg" in Georgine....We drove the Blaze following every road she recommended to Gettysburg.....With bated breath, we finally arrived in this mystical place we'd only read about in books called Gettysburg....Here we are....in Gettysburg!
alt
Well.... WTF do we do now? Zac and I tried drinking our coffee on different hills to see if it would change the taste of Sheetz's Finest... nope... still garbage-flavored. Dave kept hiding and then trying to ambush us... DAVE! Where are you??!! Oh... you're right here... in New Jersey...
alt
I was so proud of my state's kick ass soldiers and the amount of ass they kicked (and probably crushed at the same time).. go NJ! This was at the entrance to the cemetary where they commemorated all the Union States fighting to keep the peace from those radical, hate monger confederates. Hey Pat, who ELSE can we credit the preservation of these United States???
alt
D to the mfin' E, that's who! I'm pretty sure DE and NJ punched the Confeds right in the side of the neck while playing "Countdown" on their clarinets and snare drums and banjos. GO FOREFATHERS!! Dave and I were beaming with states-pride and screaming "HOOOAHHH" in each other's faces. Zac wanted to join in, but....
altNo Texas... oh, well... you'll always have the Alamo, Z!
We walked in all smiles with billowed chests of pride (Zac trailing behind with his coffee) and searched the grounds for Pat's Great-Great-Great-Great-Grandfather, Jeremiah Rhodes. He was....
alt
(apparently this was also the site of a 19th Century SuperBowl)
Pat's dad Dino got on the horn with Pat and told him to search through the Pennsylvania tombstones. There were a lot, but we combed E-V-E-R-Y single row looking for him...
alt
alt
alt
alt
We were starting to lose hope...
alt
... until we heard Pat's voice in the distance....
alt
(Hang on, Mom) GUYS, HE'S OVER HERE! (anyhooo, I don't know who got those parking tickets in your car...Mom... MOM! I gotta GO... I KNOW, I HAVE a coat on... OK, bye)
Introducing:
alt
Jeremiah Rhodes. Great-Great-Great-Great Granddaddy. I don't know much about him, other than he had a sweet moustache and some sideburns... must run in the family. I think he was 8 or 9 feet tall and only wore a loin cloth in battle. A real wild bastard. Love you, Great-Great-Great-Great Granddaddy!! XO
We wandered around town for a little while and then ran into a guy that we SWORE was our friend Quinn Blanford's Grandpa's Ghost.
alt
A giant, bearded man named Gary that knew just about everything there is to know about the Civil War. We hung with him in his cigar shop for a bit. Zac and I bought cigars like a couple-ah fat cats.
This guy Gary actually saved us $60....we wanted to do one of those guided tours around town, but it was 20 bucks each and 2 1/2 hours long...what??! We decided to skip it and then we ran into Ol' Tobacky Beard here...he told us about Pickett's Charge and the "Louisianna Tigers." Apparently Louisianna grabbed all the theives, rapists, murderers, and general do-badders hanging around New Orleans, threw them into one military troop, and unleashed them into battle. These soliders were known for their ferociousness, gold teeth, and despicable manner of killing. It was often said that when Union troops heard the Tigers were coming, they suddenly fell asleep in trenches, up in trees, and even had to run home remembering they left their stoves on.
Gary told us some ghost stories, showed us pictures he'd taken of ghosts and their "energy orbs," and then handed us a map.
Were suddenly in The Goonies, DAVE! Who's Chunk?
alt
I thought a Baby Ruth bar was the next thing coming out of this guy's pocket, but luckily it was just a map of the battle field. We searched for the Texas Monument, but couldn't find it....Zac pleaded with us to keep looking....
alt
Z: "I just KNOW it's around here somewhere, I can FEEL it"
Sorry Zac. We did our best. But we DID find this New York jam...
alt
alt
Enough history already, Dave! Gawd! Let's beat it, OK?
We saw a sign for the Ardentsville Apple Festival and made a bee-line. We drove a few miles and saw some old weirdie cars along the way. What is this Cuba??
alt
alt
All signs pointed to a parking lot in a corn field. We parked the Blaze in it, jumped on a shuttle bus and headed for the apple festival!! While we were waiting for the bus a man told us that last year his friend ate so many apple products that she puked all night... GREAT JOB!!
alt
alt
GUYS! We're supposed to be totally BADASS if we sit in the back of the bus!! Geez!
alt
That's better...
Hey Pat, remember in High Shool all those marching band trips you took in the school busses with the Tuba??? You were so badass!
This bus took us through the mountains, and it's Autumn, and the trees are all pretty, and it's Autumn, and we're gonna eat apples n stuff, and .....and.......i'm so excited!!!!
alt
We'd never been to an "Apple Festival" before. Apparently it's like a little Apple Village with Apple Street Names and Apple Shacks that sell Apple stuff for people who can then go to the Apple Amphittheatre and watch Apple plays.......or Native American Ritual Dances(??)
alt
We decided we had only TWO goals at this festival. ONE: We needed to eat EVERY apple variation we could today...no matter what it was...if apples were in it...we were gonna eat it....and TWO: Buy Zac's mom a birdfeeder. (obviously.....its an APPLE FESTIVAL!)
alt
The first thing we were told to eat by all the locals, was the PIT BEEF.
alt
alt
altOkay, maybe that didn't have apples in it. But it WAS good. Moving on...
alt
Totally happening....ain't no fritter like an Ardentsville fritter...washed it down with some Apple Cider
Then it was Apple Pie (a la mode), Apple Sausages with Apple Butter, ...all a solid thumbs up...then we tried Fried Apples...
No Bueno.
Pat thinks I'm gonna get fat...he just ate apple flavored straw all day....
Just pickin the apple outta mah teeth, DAVE! I'm no apple-hater, but somehow we forgot to get apple butter of all things. They had a great country band and a craft section and a car show! Carlisle, PA @ Dickinson College
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

We had a long drive to Erica's through the night and woke up to her avocado eggs with toast and orange juice. Love her!!! Thanks for the breakfast Erica
alt
....on our way out to Carlisle we stopped to smell the flowers....
alt
...seemed like a good idea until we noticed they belonged to a HAUNTED PRISON!!! (cue the spooky timpani)
alt
This place seemed really beautiful at first, ...
alt
....and then we thought about all the knife fights, solitary confinement, and ghosts hanging around. If Zac wanted to blend in he'd have to look a bit more "hard." Like this...
alt
alt
We totally want to come back when the Haunted House Tours are running....not sure if it will happen though :(

We left for Carlisle, PA and had some difficulty at the local liquor store...apparently everyone WITH you has to have ID. Zac's was in the dressing room, therefore, Pat and I couldn't buy anything. UGH! Had to go somewhere else, but at least we met some cool people in the process...we played the show and AGAIN didn't take any pics but here's a YouTube clip:

Afterwards, we went back to the Dorms (GO DRAYER!) and hung with some students like Holly, Sarah, Allison, Devon, Amanda and some other names I can't remember right now.....eventually reality set in that we were 30 year old men in a dorm. Ah. Time to hit the road!

We took off for West Virginia and stayed at some hotel along the way....thanks for being such a great crowd Dickinson!

WFUV and Ramapo College
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On our day off we drove up to the Bronx and did an interview/performance for WFUV. The station is in Fordham University and we recommend performing there to ANY one who can...the staff is great, the room is big, and the engineers get a great sound. Not sure when this will go on the air, but thanks for having us guys!
alt
We played Ramapo College w/ Regina in the Heartland (NJ) the following night. Talked with Lindsay from the University Press before the show and watched all the Groundhogs scurry around campus....The show was fun and the crowd was really great. We ran into our friend Sean Kiely's little brother, Alex, and after the show we headed straight for my cousin Erica's house in Philly.
We dropped the ball on pics, but here's a couple YouTube clips from an audience member:
Thanks Ramapo!
Washington, D.C. @ D.A.R. Constitution Hall
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We drove through the night straight to our friend's house in D.C. He had already left for work by the time we rolled in so we ate all his chips and found some beds...we only got about 3 hours sleep before we had to wake up and head to the venue so thanks for the "nap stations" Rich!!!

We loaded in to D.A.R. Constitution Hall at a record time...3 minutes. (Gotta love that crew) Super tired, but super excited we played a really fun show to a crowd that plugged us back in. We met a lot of these people after the show and they gave us all cavaties...so damn sweet! Congrats to Ben Foster for winning our ticket give-away and we're sorry Chris McKinney got held up with parking :( at least you caught a little bit of the set!
alt
alt
alt
After the set Regina put on a GREAT show...if you haven't heard her voice live yet, do it. Incredible.
alt
K's Mom and Dad came to the show from Norflok and got to hang with us all backstage....look at these cute Ishibashis..awwww
alt
alt
w/ Regina
Pat's friends, Ryan and Alison Medland made the trip too...Alison's middle name is "Yard." For real. It's "Yard."
alt
They snuck into Regina's BAND dressing room...ate all their snacks. (what's up CHO! whatd'ya gonna do about it???)
alt
Zac was drinking with Tamira, Drew, and Adrienne in the van all night so we have no pics, but for the record, they're all very attractive people. We swear. After the show we said good bye to Rich and his lovely lady Caroline then drove through the night back to NYC.
alt
Pat got an iPhone and ever since he won't even SLEEP without it...he loves that thing...i'm starting to get jealous...
alt
alt
alt
He uses it s much that it needs to be charged every few hours....here it is on stage during soundcheck.
alt
(We're getting concerned)

Zac can't relax if he knows I'm driving so he shuts himself out of reality for some sleep....
alt
He's probably smart....cuz while everyone's asleep...I'm driving down the highway...
alt
...it's late...
alt
...and I'm taking pictures???
alt
(I was bored)
alt
In any case, I got us home in one piece...and we all went to sleep around 5am....but not to worry...We got the day off!

Columbus, OH @ Skully's
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We woke up in Heidi's house, started running around in our underwear, jumping on all the beds, and then we took showers. She asked us to let the dogs out which was kinda fun cuz one of them is blind and pretty much deaf. Cute little grandpa of a dog. You have to pick him up and carry him outside...i watched him walk across the grass and into the BLAZE's wheel a couple times until he finally just pooped on the driveway...awwwwwww.
We hung around Heidi's house eating cookies and stuff 'till her dogwalker came inside. He was a bit confused by the rock band in her kitchen but handled it pretty well.....eventually we left paradise for Thunderpusy Records. Me, Pat, and Zac just looked at all the new records we wished we had money to buy....(single tear). K just looked at tall the records he has money to buy....but won't.
Skully's has our favorite Happy Hour specials so we got there early ...
alt
Our friend Lindsey just got off work and hung at the bar with us for awhile. She talked about her new bf and then got mad at me for judging girls who eat McDonalds. (sorry Lindsey!) The Lost Revival started the night and sounded great...Heidi rollled up in her fancy car and brightened the room....we got to catch up with Queens of Columbus Raina and Amber (who's famous for providing me with the White Russians that led to my Treehouse Debauchery)....we played our set and then had a good time with Andy Shaw's set. Thanks for playing with us guys!
Again, we forgot to take pics so we stole Jackie's....
alt
alt
alt
alt
alt
alt
alt
alt
alt
We won't be back this way for awhile, so we said bye to Libby...
alt
....and then loaded up the van. Gotta be in D.C. early as hell so we drove through the night...byyyye Columbus and thanks for the hospitality Heidi!
Cincinnati, OH @ Norhtside Tavern
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

We drove from WV to OH and got excited to hit up Sidewinder.....one of our favorite coffee shops.....always cool people to meet hanging out in there.
alt
We loaded our stuff in and hung out with the bar tender Eileen and the sound guy, forgot his name but super nice dude. We played with the local band The Sweep and had a great time with some old friends (Melonie, Libby, Jackie, and a really cool guy who I also can't remember). I see a pattern developing....anyone else?
alt
alt
alt
alt
alt
We totally screwed up on photos for this one, but here's a bit of video our friend took...

After the show we all took a long drive to Columbus, OH to stay with our friend Heidi. We pulled up to her mansion around 4am i think? We knocked on the door expecting her to be in some sort of pajamas-thingy, but she was wide awake, all dressed up, and had super fancy snacks and beers waiting on the table. (WHAT??) it was so crazy! She even baked these amazing brownies with cookies in the middle...we hung out eating and drinking until we passed out around 6am....i think she was heading out the door and going to work....

thanks Heidi!

Charleston, WV @ the Empty Glass
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After a night of such emotional import for each member of the band we needed a day off to relax before continuing the tour....each of us spent that time differently:
PAT- Pat got off a subway train hungry and hungover. He realized he lost his bank card and walked from 63rd and Lexington to 9th and 2nd ave. Went to VESELKA for some Beef Stroganov, Pea Soup, Fresh Lemonade, and a chocolate chip cookie. (he also brought back an M&M chocolate chip cookie for a certain drummer cuz he knows that place makes his favorite ones)
*except the clerk gave him one with nuts.
**i hate nuts in my cookies.
***but i still love Pat.
ZAC- Went to the park with his lady and said goodbye to the geese before they migrated south. The geese were funny.
DAVE- Went "hiking" with his cousin Erica in Jersey City's Van Vorst Park.
K- Spent the day trying to teach his 3 year old daughter, Sola, how to say "I'm not that kind of girl." (she can only do it in Japanese so far)
The next morning, Pat, K, and Zac picked me up at my grandparents house in Scotch Plains, NJ. (That was when my grandmother asked me "What did you do on MyFace?" Nana had heard that I put a picture of her on my facebook page. When I explained the difference between MySpace and Facebook, she was still confused and asked, "So it's NOT called Spacebook?")
alt
With that, we all headed for Charleston, WV in the Blaze. Regina's next show is at Constitution Hall in D.C. so we picked up a few shows to play in the meantime.
alt
It's always great getting away from the concrete jungle...
alt
(But we miss it after 6 hours)
Back on tour means back to the FEST-O! (see earlier BLOGs for reference)
alt
We got to The Empty Glass around 9pm and loaded up the gear...Always great to see our dear friends Roadblock, Jackson and LIbby. Somehow we managed to walk away with no pics :( But we DID get to spend time with some new friends Tania and John. We met them at The Sound Factory last tour and they just got engaged...Congratulations!
We crashed in their apartment and left for Tudor's first thing in the morning....BISCUITS!
CD Release Show IN NYC!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We spent the night at my cousin Erica's house in Philly and kidnapped her from work the next morning. We threw her in the van and took her back to NYC with us...(along with her 2 jackets, 3 blouses, high heels, leather boots, and hair dryer) COMEon! It's one night!

Anyway, we got to Music Hall of Williamsburg for load-in and met the crew. Our first time playing here since it was North 6. Bowery Presents bought it and turned it into a Bowery Ballroom type joint, but it's in Williamsburg so it has a more expensive haircut. The crew was really great and the venue sounds fucking amazing. We all went to eat some Thai food and then just hung around the dressing room getting showers and locking ourselves outside the bathroom a bunch of times.
alt
Erica wanted to play some guitar on the Dear Prudence cover we were doing, so she asked K for some help...
alt
I had to explain to her for the 37th time, K doesn't know HOW to play the guitar!!
alt
We were all smiles watching Nite Club groove their asses off followed by Demander melting our faces (and hearts cuz they're so cute). The Subjects came on next and sounded expensive. You should all go hear these bands cuz they live in Brooklyn and will make your life better for at least 45 minutes.

When we played our set we had the most fun in a loooong time (partly cuz I was dressed like a maniacal Richard Simmons and partly cuz Pat was wearing new purple briefs) but MOSTLY cuz everyone there were friends that we love to death. Thanks for making the show so much fun!

Sept. 24th - WRXP and Philadelphia, PA
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Today was the first show of the tour and our first time meeting Regina. We were excited about that but ALSO excited about being on one of our favorite radio staions WRXP. We all met up at the 101.9 studio for a live performance of "Flaming Arrow." It was 9am and Zac's alarm "mysteriously" shut off THREE times so we were all pretty tired. It was so crazy hanging out with Matt Pinfield cuz I remember being a kid and staying up late watching MTV. I'd always see him on "Headbanger's Ball" and "120 Minutes" and think he must be the coolest guy ever. Zac and K did an acoustic performance...
alt
...while Pat and I threw spit balls at the back of their heads.
alt
Matt and Leslie were really nice and we're happy Matt keeps us in his iPod's "At-The-Gym" playlist.
alt
alt
You can watch the performance on WRXP HERE
As we walked out we saw some signatures of friends on their poster-thingy;
alt
alt
alt
After some coffee we jumped in the blaze and headed straight to The Electric Factory for load-in. We were excited to play for 2,500 people but were quickly brought back to reality when the guy in the lot made us pay 10 bucks for parking. (huh??) Don't they know who we are?!
Then we pulled up next to Regina's Tour bus....
alt
right. Guess we forgot for a second :)
We thew all our gear in the club and then got to meet everyone...Veikko (the super tall German Tour Manager), Dan Cho (the sweeter than honey Cellist), McKenzie Smith (sweet-cheecks drummer and member of the amazing band MIDLAKE), Regina (duh. you know her), and Jack Dishel (sole proprietor of the sparkling ONLY SUN). While setting up we got to meet the sound crew including Keith Nelson (the ever-polite gentlemanly monitor man) and Greig Duffin (the I'm-a-nice-guy-and-not-REALLY-sarcastic-but-sometimes-have-to-be-when-Keith's-around Front of House Production Man).
We decided to walk a few blocks for some coffee....which quickly became a gopher's errand when Regina's band put in their "order."
alt
We tried to cheer ourselves up when we noticed a sweet mother telling her son how GREAT Zac and Pat were...
alt
...but then we saw THESE guys laughing and pointing as they made condescending remarks like, "Look at this fool with all that coffee!" etc...
alt
As bad as this all seemed we were finally vindicated when we got back to the dressing rooms and reminded of the alcohol situation....Regina's Band has a "dry" dressing room.... Jupiter One, does not.alt
You enjoying those coffees boys??
alt
When we got on stage we were blown away by the crowd and excited knowing we had Cousins Dennis and Erica, and our dear friends Nora, John Crooker, Jughead, and Eileen out there. After our set we hung out at the merch table with our newest friend Morgan Bentsen (the avid reader of Spice origin and Merchandise Guru). We watched Regina's set and can honestly say she is the best singer we've ever heard. no joke. This girl can sing you to shipwreck.
Backstage after the show we had the pleasure of seeing Paul Rudd and Reese Witherspoon back there...Pat got to tell Paul about how he was an assistant engineer on Anchorman long before he even knew what that movie was gonna become. Pat had to catalogue each track of the line "It smells like Big Foot's Dick" and he pissed himself everytime. Which says a lot because that line was played at least 27 times. Zac noticed Reese staring at him quite a bit and then she finally said, "You look familiar." To which he responded, "so do you."
(except not really. but i wish he had)
He just told her, "yeah I've got one of those faces" and commenced with the small talk. However, this is a VERY important story. Mainly cuz we had to hear it 7 times that night....
alt
ZAC: So THEN Reese says to me, "You look familiar..."
