New York, NY…. Sunday, March 18, 2012...In August of 2011 New York singer/songwriter Marci Geller was flown to Switzerland as a “gift to the bride” to perform at a wedding outside of Geneva. The guests included the Mayor of the small village of Grens as well as world renowned Parisian cellist Jean-Philippe Martignoni. Geller invited Martignoni to sit in for a song or two and the chemistry was immediate and magical. So much so, the Mayor commanded an encore performance which was fulfilled and the two continued performing until the next morning. As the French say, “Details” were exchanged before Geller departed for the US and the two musicians forged a friendship and musical working relationship that resulted in Martignoni being a guest performer on Geller’s soon to be released CD.
A few weeks later, word was received that Martingoni would be performing with his quartet QUATUOR PARISII, at Lincoln Center as part of their Sunday Morning Coffee Concerts at 11am on March 18th and the two decided it was time to recapture their musical chemistry by performing their first US concert in New York City later that afternoon. Percussionist Marshal Rosenberg (Buskin and Batteau, Tom Rush, Aztec Two Step) who currently tours with Geller suggested the quintessential Metropolitan Room. An offer was extended and the now trio waits in anticipation of this debut concert.
Geller’s performances on "Live with Regis", "Good Day NY" and Fox Morning Show have gained her a reputation as one of the areas “finest singer/songwriters”-David Buskin. The critically acclaimed singer/songwriter has toured the world and her music can be heard in soundtracks on MTV, VH-1, PBS, ABC Family, A&E, Discovery Channel, USA Network and others. She toured for two years as the support act and back-up vocalist for Ritchie Blackmore’s band Blackmore's Night. In 2010 she was chosen by the Independent Songwriters Magazine (ISWM) as the "Editor's Choice" as one of their favorite songwriters of the last decade and continues to receive praise and accolades from some of music’s greatest artists and has been called a “Millennium Carole King” by Ear Candy Magazine.
Martignoni is best known for his travels with his quartet that has played to sold out crowds worldwide. His uniqueness lies in his ability to easily glide between the discipline of classical music and his ability to finesse contemporary music.
The Metropolitan Room, which boasts a roster that is literally a “Who’s Who” of contemporary, jazz and pop music, is the perfect place for the pairing. The audience can expect other surprise guests to make an appearance for this Sunday afternoon of music. |
