WELL NOW folks. Here's the news...I (Amos) am going on a 2.5 week tour with Dave from the Doctors Fox to Denver and back!! He and I are old buddies, and with our bands on the rise, we're scouting Westward to cover new ground.
To kick it off, I put together an intimate night featuring acoustic solo sets from some amazing musicians:
Brady of the Dads - Brady's songs are a unique flavor of alternative post-punk, dark and brooding, catchy, and just so damn cool...this band will blow up. http://www.myspace.com/thedadsroc
Bogs of Bogs Visionary Orchestra - Alexander Bogs has a relentless joy and love for the world and a twinkle of wisdom in his eye. His electrified banjo will bring a smile to your soul. http://www.bogsvisionaryorchestra.com/
Seth from Dufus - the most unreserved and powerful stream of consciousness comes straight from Seth's wild and expansive vocal cords. Performing in his own string-sculpture lair, he will captivate and possess you. http://www.dufus.tv/
Dave of the Doctors Fox - Dave's playful wit comes across two-fold in his music: lyrically, his sense of humor and irony displays his charm and wide literary breadth of knowledge. Musically, he juxtaposes numerous styles and genres to create his own ADD inspired rock for his Cambridge, MA-based band, the Doctors Fox. He will inspire and tickle you. www.myspace.com/thedoctorsfox
Amos of Walri - Closing the night, its me! I write most of the music for Walri, Rochester's own psychedelic love rock band. Here's some recent press:
"Their mix of incredible musicianship and world class melodies completely blew me away." the Zeitgeisty Report (http://www.zeitgeistyreport.com/articles/2010/06/08/you-heard-it-first-new-music-spotlight-on%E2%80%A6-walri/)

In the followup to our packed house at Pete's Candy Store, we are playing a looser, raw-er (rawr), crazy-ass warehouse party in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Be there or else you'll be cryin in yr milk about how you forgot to go to drag your lazy bumbum to this very show that people will perhaps be talking about for YEARS to come...

Rochester's favorite psychedelic love rock band throws two free shows
May 22, 2010 - Rochester NY- On June 11, the opening night of the Rochester International Jazz Festival, music lovers have the opportunity to engage in a one-of-a kind audience participatory benefit show, with all proceeds going to ArtPeace, one of the city's most active non-profit organizations.
Rochester's favorite psychedelic love-rock band, Walri, is hosting the concert, scheduled for 10 p.m. at Scotland Yard Pub on St. Paul Street. The free show, featuring Quintopus (a local jazz/groove quintet) as the opener, and Walri as the headliner, offers a creative alternative to the usual passive show-going experience: a modeling clay sculpture station where audience members will have the opportunity to create a sculpture of their own design. Each piece will be fired in the official toaster-oven and auctioned off silently at midnight, with all proceeds going straight to ArtPeace, a local organization that uses art and technology programs to engage, involve, and inspire underprivileged youth. Live painting by Carla Bartow (featured artist @ the Readymade Rocks party/arts show at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, TX) and live drawing by Greg Caggiano (freelance artist with work published by Men's Health magazine and Crayola) during the performances will be auctioned as well.
'We're really quite excited to play shows where the audience will be involved directly in the art,' said Amos Rosenstein, a member of Walri. 'And to be able to benefit such a stellar organization like ArtPeace makes it even sweeter. Hopefully our music will inspire people to dream up some strange and beautiful clay sculptures.'
Earlier that night, another free show will be held at Bernunzio's Uptown Music, located right in the heart of the Jazz Festival at the corner of East and Swan Streets. In honor of the Jazz Fest, Walri will tweak their set in the slightly jazzier direction, and will also be supported by Kelly Izzo, a talented singer and songwriter known for her stunning, velvety voice. That show is at 7 p.m.
With recent audiences of over 100 people, Walri has chosen now as the time to give back to Rochester, the city where they all met and still live. ArtPeace is the perfect match for Walri's positive, creative vibe, and all involved parties are thrilled and looking forward to the show.
Show Schedule:
Walri w/Kelly Izzo at the Rochester International Jazz Festival, Bernunzio's Uptown Music, corner of East and Swan Streets. June 11, 7 p.m. Free.
Walri, Quintopus and the ArtPeace clay-sculpture making extravaganza!
Scotland Yard Pub, 187 St. Paul Street, Rochester. June 11, 10 p.m. Audience art auction, with all proceeds to benefit ArtPeace, Midnight. Free.
ABOUT WALRI: Walri is a downright exciting rock band with a gloriously diverse sound leading the music scene in Rochester, New York with unforgettable melodies, tight harmonies, and infectious beats. Walri brings extraordinary tunes and unshakable live playing everywhere they go. Labeling their unique sound can be difficult since they incorporate 60's Retro Pop, 70's Funk, Jazz and Brazilian Bossa Nova, and modern Rock and Roll. But don't worry, just call it "Love-Rock" like their fans already do. The band has shared the stage with such nationally touring acts as Dr. Dog, Ben Lee, Reel Big Fish, Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, Elf Power, and other members of the Elephant Six Collective. The band performs regularly in their hometown of Rochester, and frequently brings their captivating sounds to Boston, New York, Chicago, Burlington, Syracuse, and Buffalo. Walri is preparing the remastered and remixed official re-release of the first full length album, "Paper Crane," and are preparing to release a brand new EP and full-length album in the coming months!
ABOUT ARTPEACE: ArtPeace touches the lives of 3,405 young people (K-college) from impoverished homes including 120 young entrepreneurs and over 1,200 adults with arts & technology education and employment in urban, suburban and rural Monroe County and the Southern Tier / Finger Lakes Region. They boast real results:
* 99.3% stay in high school; 91% go to college (City at Peace national data)
* 96% teachers/artists report increase in creative collaboration, less isolation
* 20% increase in Math and ELA scores (compared to other district students)
* Significant drop in behavioral incidents
